As a seasoned movie critic with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the casting of Jason Momoa as Lobo in the DCU is nothing short of brilliant. Having followed his career since his breakout role as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, I’ve always admired Momoa’s ability to bring a unique energy and charisma to every character he plays.
With Aquaman under his belt, it seems only fitting that he would take on the role of another beloved DC Comics antihero. And as a fan of the original pitch for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, I can’t help but feel a glimmer of hope that we might see Lobo and Supergirl teaming up in some capacity.
The idea of Momoa playing the role of Lobo has been floating around for years, so it’s great to finally see it come to fruition. And with James Gunn at the helm of the DCU, I have no doubt that we’re in for a wild ride.
As for whether Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will take inspiration from the original pitch, only time will tell. But one thing is for sure – Momoa is going to bring his A-game and leave us all laughing with his signature wit and charm. I can’t wait to see what he does next!
(Joke: I hear they’re thinking of calling the movie “Lobo and Supergirl: The Intergalactic Bromance”. Now that’s a title I’d pay good money to see!)
At last, the news has been confirmed! For what feels like forever, there have been whispers and guesses about it, but now it’s official: Jason Momoa will part ways with the underwater realm of Atlantis as Aquaman in the DCEU, and instead, he’ll take on the role of the cosmic bounty hunter Lobo in James Gunn’s DCU. The specifics about his character in the forthcoming DCU production are still kept secret, but the initial concept for the comic that inspired the film could provide some vital hints. This development is sure to delight both Momoa and Lobo enthusiasts alike.
Tom King, the creator of “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” shared a year ago that his initial concept for the comic book series involved both Lobo and Supergirl sharing the main roles. This team-up was intended to result in a relationship similar to the dynamic between Rooster Cogburn and Mattie Ross from “True Grit.” In the 1969 original, this duo was portrayed by John Wayne and Kim Darby, while the 2010 remake featured Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld.
The book titled ‘Supergirl: WoT’ originated from my initial idea for a Lobo/Supergirl story. However, my editors, Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich, advised against it and suggested I make Supergirl the main character in the vein of Rooster Cogburn instead. Consequently, this book wouldn’t have come to life without the creative input of Jamie and Brittany.
Will ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ Take Inspiration From This Pitch?
As a longtime comic book enthusiast with a particular fondness for the DC Universe, I find myself intrigued by the potential development surrounding Lobo. Having closely followed the creation of “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” by King and artist Bilquis Evely, it’s fascinating to consider how the creative team was initially advised to replace Lobo with Supergirl in the role of Rooster. However, the recent casting of Jason Momoa as the beloved antihero character in a live-action adaptation has sparked my curiosity about how this decision may impact the DC Universe on screen.
In light of Momoa’s involvement, I believe that director Craig Gillespie and writer Ana Nogueira might reconsider the original idea or draw inspiration from it, giving Lobo a more significant role in the upcoming DCU movie. As someone who has watched the evolution of these characters over the years, I can only hope that the creative team will leverage their collective talents to bring Lobo’s unique and complex character to life on the big screen. It would be an exciting development for fans like myself, who have grown attached to the DC Universe through its rich history and diverse cast of characters.
Ever since I’ve been dreaming about it, I’ve yearned to embody Lobo – a character that I believed I would bring to life under Zack Snyder’s direction within the DCEU. However, fate had other plans, and I found myself donning the trident as Aquaman instead. Last December, I couldn’t help but share my ardent affection for this adored cosmic bounty hunter, expressing my hopes to one day breathe life into him on the big screen.
Hey there, I’ve got a soft spot for Lobo, you see. In the past, comics were my thing, but these days not so much. Yet, he was always my top pick. If given the chance to portray him, it would be like a dream come true. Truth is, if they reach out and ask me to play Lobo, count me in! But for now, I haven’t received that call. So, I don’t want to spread any false rumors, but if they ever do call or invite me to audition, you can bet I’d be there.
Titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“, this upcoming series will feature Milly Alcock portraying Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, alongside Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll and Matthias Schoenaerts as the antagonist, Krem. Joining the cast is Jason Momoa as Lobo. The show appears to follow a storyline similar to the comics, where Supergirl embarks on a quest for vengeance across the cosmos. As part of the DCU’s “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters“, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is scheduled to premiere on June 26, 2026.
