As a seasoned moviegoer with decades of cinema under my belt, I must confess that Denzel Washington’s action-packed performances never fail to impress me. And the latest resurgence of interest in “The Equalizer 2” is nothing short of astounding! With its gripping plotline and masterful execution, it’s no wonder this film has climbed the charts on Prime Video, outpacing even some new releases.
Having had the privilege of witnessing Washington’s stellar career unfold over the years, I can attest to his uncanny ability to breathe life into every character he portrays. It was a delight to see him take on the role of Robert McCall for a second time in “The Equalizer 2,” and it was equally fascinating to observe the complexities of his former DIA officer persona.
What’s truly remarkable about this film, however, is that it marks Washington’s first foray into sequel territory – a bold departure from his usual one-off roles. But based on the success of “The Equalizer 2” and the positive response to its sequels, it seems Denzel has found his new action franchise!
Intriguingly enough, Washington has announced not one but TWO more installments in the series, with “The Equalizer 4” and a fifth film on the horizon. While this may come as a shock to some, I find myself eagerly anticipating these upcoming releases, knowing that Denzel’s unparalleled talent will once again grace our screens.
As for when we can expect these new films, it seems that even the great Denzel Washington cannot predict the future – although he does claim that they make him happy, so who are we to argue? In the meantime, I wholeheartedly recommend revisiting “The Equalizer” and “The Equalizer 2” on Prime Video, and catching up with “The Equalizer 3” on Netflix.
And as a final thought, I can’t help but wonder: who will be the next lucky recipient of Robert McCall’s brand of vigilante justice? Only time – and Denzel Washington – will tell!
It seems that nothing expresses “Happy New Year” quite like the thrill of Denzel Washington dishing out justice, and it appears many people are re-experiencing this in the 2018 action-thriller “The Equalizer 2”. This six-year-old film has been surging on Prime Video, reaching the third spot on the charts, just behind “Red One” and the Spanish movie titled “Culpa Tuya”. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, “The Equalizer 2” continues the story of Denzel Washington’s character Robert McCall, as he takes vengeance for a friend who was tragically killed.
On July 20, 2018, the movie “The Equalizer 2” made its debut in cinemas. Alongside Denzel Washington, this action-packed film stars Pedro Pascal, Bill Pullman, Ashton Sanders, and Melissa Leo. With a production budget of approximately $80 million, it generated around $190 million at the box office, similar to the earnings of the 2014 original. This is the fourth project that Washington and director Antoine Fuqua have collaborated on. Their previous works include not only “The Equalizer” but also “Training Day” from 2001 and “The Magnificent Seven” released in 2016.
In an unusual turn of events for Washington, “The Equalizer 2” marked the first time he starred in a sequel of one his films. Prior to this, all his roles had been standalone projects. However, the enjoyment he derived from collaborating with Fuqua on the film and the challenge of portraying a retired DIA officer persuaded him to reprise the role. Interestingly, Washington also agreed to appear in “The Equalizer 3” in 2023, which, similar to its predecessors, garnered approximately the same box office revenue.
There Are Even More ‘Equalizer’ Movies on the Way
Contrary to what people anticipated, it appears that The Equalizer 3 won’t be Washington’s final portrayal of McCall. On the contrary! Due to the overwhelming success of the movies, the actor himself has revealed that not only is there going to be a fourth installment, but we’re also in store for a fifth film in the series as well.
Washington shared with Esquire last November that he had promised another installment of the beloved “Equalizer” series, and now they are working on parts four and five. It seems many people are thrilled about this news – it appears everyone is quite fond of these “Equalizer” films, including Washington himself, who finds them personally satisfying as well.
As someone who has always been drawn to action-packed movies, I must admit that the Equalizer films resonate deeply with me. You see, I’ve spent most of my life fighting against injustice, and these films remind me of my own battles. They portray a world where the good guys are hard to find, and it’s up to someone like me – a lone wolf – to take down those who prey on the weak. The line between right and wrong may be blurred, but I know that I’m fighting for the people. When they can’t get the bad guys, they call on someone like me to step in, and I’m always ready to answer the call. It’s a lonely life, but one that I wouldn’t trade for anything. The Equalizer films capture the essence of my journey, and I find myself cheering along with the audience as I watch the protagonist take down yet another enemy.
It’s still uncertain when “The Equalizer 4” will start filming, hence a release date hasn’t been announced yet. Since Denzel Washington might not be doing sequels without Antoine Fuqua, it’s likely he’ll direct again, but this is yet to be officially confirmed. In the interim, don’t forget to watch “The Equalizer” and “The Equalizer 2” on Amazon Prime Video, and “The Equalizer 3” on Netflix.
