Everything You Need to Know Before That Huge One Chicago Crossover

As a die-hard fan of the One Chicago universe, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming crossover event! With over a decade of watching these shows and becoming deeply attached to the characters, it feels like I’m part of their extended family.

Imagine being in Kelly Severide’s shoes as he faces yet another life-or-death situation, all while trying to navigate his romantic entanglements and newfound leadership role at Firehouse 51. Or, perhaps you can relate more to Dr. Goodwin, who continues her battle against a stalker that seems to always be one step ahead. And let’s not forget about Officer Torres, whose personal life has taken a tragic turn and will undoubtedly impact his professional life in the crossover event.

To make things even more exciting, the usual Wednesday night lineup of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. is getting shaken up! The crossover kicks off with Chicago Fire at 8/7 Central, followed by Chicago Med at 9/8 Central, and wrapping up with Chicago P.D. at 10/9 Central. It’s a bit like being served dessert before the main course – but who am I to complain?

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, remember that you can catch all the One Chicago action on Peacock! So grab your favorite snacks, dim the lights, and settle in for an unforgettable night of drama, suspense, and maybe even a few tears.

Oh, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for any cameos from the OG characters – you never know who might pop up! Just remember, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it: One Chicago is best enjoyed with a side of humor. So when things get tough for our beloved characters, just remind yourself that at least they’re not dealing with a boss like mine – talk about a high-stakes game of office politics!

Five years have passed since a significant crossover event took place on the screen of One Chicago, with the last occurrence happening in October 2019. Excitingly for enthusiasts (regrettably for fictional characters), another crossover event is planned to bring together characters from Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med in early 2025. NBC has shared story details, an official release date, and comments from showrunners and executives.

Regardless of how the initial emergency responders handle The Windy City, NBC has assured viewers that the upcoming One Chicago crossover will essentially feel like a thrilling three-hour action film. To help fans get ready for this explosive event, it’s essential to find out when it will air, understand how each individual TV series contributes to the exciting crossover, and identify which characters might be significantly affected.

What is One Chicago’s Next Crossover Event About?

In December 2024, NBC officially announced a planned crossover event for the TV series “One Chicago,” marking the first such event since October 2019. This type of event necessitates extensive logistical planning involving all cast and crew members from each show in the “One Chicago” universe, which encompasses medical and police procedural dramas like “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago Med,” and “Chicago P.D.” As Anastasia Puglisi, a producer for One Chicago, stated in an NBC press release:

Creating a three-hour action film is an extremely challenging endeavor that necessitates flawless collaboration among our screenwriters, actors, production teams, and executives, as well as support from the city of Chicago. We’re elated to have top-tier talent in every department to rise to this challenge.

As a long-time fan of the classic ’70s film, “The Towering Inferno,” I was thrilled to hear that NBC is incorporating elements from this iconic movie into their upcoming One Chicago crossover event. Having grown up watching such disaster films and being captivated by their intense drama and suspense, I can’t wait to see how they bring the intensity of a raging inferno into the world of our beloved firefighters, paramedics, and police officers. The blend of action, emotion, and camaraderie that these shows are known for will undoubtedly make this crossover a must-watch event. I’m counting down the days until it airs!

In case of a powerful gas explosion in a skyscraper, an impressive number of Chicago’s emergency workers swarm the scene to rescue many civilians. Yet, it is the hidden danger that spurs our brave responders into a desperate search and rescue mission for around 40 individuals who are trapped far below ground level, among them being two of their own colleagues.

Although we don’t know exactly who the two individuals are that will be stuck in the underground, revisiting how each series ended might offer some clues. Additionally, the press release suggests that it could provide some insight as well.

The forthcoming incident, involving repercussions for the Intelligence Unit, Firehouse 51, and Gaffney, revolves around a catastrophe occurring within a downtown office structure, causing urban turmoil.

A Snapshot of Where One Chicago Left Off

Just a heads up, all “One Chicago” series will resume their runs following their mid-season break on January 8th, 2025. Last we saw on “Chicago Fire”, Firehouse 51 was experiencing turbulence as the new Fire Department Chief, Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney), grappled with juggling his job and his troubled marriage to Monica (KaDee Strickland). Simultaneously, Mouch (Christian Stolte) and Herrmann (David Eigenberg) were busy preparing for promotions within the fire crew.

In another part of the story, character Joe Cruz (played by Joe Minoso) faces danger when he discovers a bullet in his workplace locker. This bullet is traced to a notorious gang called the Insane Kings, a group that his brother Leon was once a member of. The subplot references an event from Season 1 where Cruz chose to save Leon over a member of the Insane Kings named Flaco, who unfortunately lost his life in the process. Now, Flaco’s relative seeks revenge for his death by threatening Joe and Leon.

As a film enthusiast, I found myself on the edge of my seat while watching an intense confrontation unfold in “Chicago Med”. The Gaffney Chicago Medical Center was the stage for this dramatic standoff. In the thick of it all, Director Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) uncovered her secret tormentor – none other than Cassidy, the irate spouse of a patient whose life Goodwin had to let slip away in a tough choice made following a tragic shipwreck. As Cassidy charged at Goodwin with a knife to her throat, the screen went dark, and Dr. Archer was left contemplating his next move.

Speaking as a dedicated movie buff, I must say that the midseason cliffhanger of “Chicago P.D.” left me utterly stunned. My character, Officer Dante Torres, found himself in a state of profound shock when his confidant and ex-informant, Gloria Perez, was gunned down during a harrowing shootout. We had kept our clandestine relationship hidden, believing we’d escaped the dangerous world of drug dealing. Regrettably, it seemed that Perez couldn’t stay away from the trade, and in the end, Torres found himself drawn back in as well.

Behind the turmoil of his personal emotions, Torres now faces the challenge of working alongside colleagues in the Intelligence Department who are privy to his secret relationship with Perez. For example, the newly appointed Police Chief Charlie Reid (played by Shawn Hatosy) informs Voight (Jason Beghe) that he has been cognizant of Torres and Perez’s romantic involvement for some time.

Joe Cruz finds himself at odds with Flaco’s cousin who poses a threat to him and his brother Leon. Meanwhile, Doctor Goodwin remains under duress as her stalker, Cassidy, holds a knife to her. The fate of Mouch and Herrmann hangs in the balance as they await the outcome of their promotion exam results. Torres grapples with Perez’s passing, the revelation of their affair, and Chief Reid’s next course of action.
