I Was So Pumped For Netflix’s No. 2 Series Right Now, But The 31% Audience Score Is Giving Me Pause

As a film enthusiast with over two decades of watching and analyzing movies under my belt, I must admit that my excitement for the new series, “Missing You,” was palpable when it landed on Netflix’s 2025 schedule. Adapted from Harlan Coben’s eponymous novel, the premise seemed tailor-made to pique my interest, with a detective uncovering her long-lost fiancé on a dating app ten years after his disappearance. The addition of Rosalind Eleazar, who played Louisa Guy in four seasons of “Slow Horses” and will be reprising her role in Season 5, only amplified my anticipation.

However, upon perusing the reviews, I found myself disheartened by the series’ low audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. While it’s not uncommon for opinions to differ, seeing a 31% audience rating was hard to ignore. As someone who usually prefers to make up my mind about a show without being swayed by critics, I find myself in a conundrum.

Despite the lackluster reception, I remain hopeful that “Missing You” will prove to be a hidden gem. Its intriguing premise and talented ensemble cast, which includes Jessica Plummer, Richard Armitage, Lenny Henry, Steve Pemberton, and Marc Warren, are too compelling to ignore.

So, while the critics may have their reservations, I’ll be giving “Missing You” a chance, just as I always do with shows that intrigue me. Who knows? Maybe it will become my new obsession.

As for a bit of humor to lighten the mood, let me share an anecdote: One time, I watched a movie that had a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes and ended up loving it so much that I convinced all my friends to watch it with me. We spent hours dissecting its merits over dinner and drinks, arguing passionately about why we thought it was brilliant. So, if you find yourself in the same boat as me with “Missing You,” don’t be afraid to give it a chance – who knows? Maybe it will become your new favorite show!

As we welcome the new year, the 2025 TV lineup is already generating buzz with upcoming series such as “Missing You”, a Netflix original based on the Harlan Coben novel of the same name. This intriguing detective drama revolves around a woman who finds her long-missing fiancé on a dating app over a decade after his disappearance, and it stars Rosalind Eleazar from “Slow Horses”. Although the plot sounds captivating, some viewers have given the series a less-than-favorable rating.

As a die-hard TV enthusiast who’s been following Netflix’s lineup since its early days, I was thrilled when “Missing You” was announced as one of their upcoming shows set to premiere on January 1st, 2025. With the show currently ranking No. 2 on their Top 10 list and generating buzz among fans, I eagerly anticipated diving into a new series to get lost in. However, my excitement quickly waned when I stumbled upon its lackluster ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

With a mere 50% score from critics on the Tomatometer and an audience score of only 31%, it’s hard not to question whether this show is worth watching. As someone who typically avoids reading reviews before diving into a new series, I find myself torn between my enthusiasm for the hype and the overwhelmingly negative scores.

Given my history of enjoying shows that aren’t always critically acclaimed, I’m tempted to give “Missing You” a chance and form my own opinion. But with such low ratings, it’s challenging not to feel a bit apprehensive about investing my time in this series. Only time will tell if “Missing You” is worth the hype or if it falls short of expectations.

I’m quite disappointed by this poor rating for several reasons. To begin with, I was genuinely thrilled about this show’s concept. Furthermore, I looked forward to Eleazar spearheading the series as she performs exceptionally well in Slow Horses, a series available on Apple TV+. She portrayed Louisa Guy throughout all four seasons of the highly acclaimed Apple TV+ series, and with Season 5 of Slow Horses coming soon, along with a sixth season already being developed, I’m eager to see more of the cast in other projects while we patiently wait for new episodes.

Although it’s unfortunate, I must admit that the score for “Missing You” has left me feeling rather let down, given my admiration for its main actress. Nevertheless, I plan on watching the series myself to develop my personal perspective, although I might wait a bit before doing so.

Although “Missing You” has received mixed reactions from both fans and critics, its captivating concept and talented ensemble featuring Jessica Plummer, Richard Armitage, Lenny Henry, Steve Pemberton, and Marc Warren still make it worth checking out. Thus, I encourage you to give it a try as well.

Moving on from this particular series, I’m glad that as we head into the remainder of 2025, Netflix has plenty more exciting projects in store for us, such as the final season of Stranger Things and Season 2 of Wednesday. This means we can swiftly transition to shows that audiences seem to be looking forward to enjoying more.
