A delightful piece of love news kicks off the new year! It seems that one of Hollywood’s most cherished celebrity duos might be advancing their relationship. Intriguing rumors are swirling that Spider-Man actor Tom Holland is planning to propose to his co-star and girlfriend, Zendaya, who played MJ in ‘No Way Home’.
According to TMZ, it’s been rumored that Tom Holland and Zendaya are now engaged. Reportedly, he proposed to her sometime between Christmas and New Year’s, making it a very private and intimate moment. Instead of a grand spectacle like a proposal with spider-webs spelling out “Will you marry me?”, it was said to be a heartfelt and romantic affair, taking place in one of Zendaya’s family homes. Holland is reported to have gotten down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him.
At the engagement ceremony, it seems no relatives were present, creating a private atmosphere for the couple. Given their high-profile status in Hollywood, it’s understandable that they prefer a low-key approach. Although they are one of the more famous celebrity pairs, they have always been quite reserved and only recently started talking about each other openly in interviews. It’s evident that they are deeply in love, but they’ve both expressed their desire to keep their relationship private due to their professions which make their lives so public.
Tom Holland and Zendaya First Met While Filming ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’
In 2016, Holland and Zendaya initially crossed paths during the production of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Tom Holland played the lead role, while Zendaya took on the character Michelle, also known as MJ. Although their characters didn’t share a romantic connection in the initial film, they started to exhibit a growing fondness for each other in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, a bond that deepened in Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in 2021.
It’s been suggested that the two started dating after they began promoting the series “Homecoming”. Many observant fans noticed a friendly dynamic between them during the show’s press events. However, both Holland and Zendaya often emphasized they were just very close friends, but their on-screen chemistry hinted at something deeper. They shared their first kiss on screen in “Far From Home”, but it wasn’t until 2021 that their off-screen bond became clear.
In July 2021, images emerged showing them kissing in a car, and it was subsequently confirmed that they were an item. Since then, Holland and Zendaya have been cautious about their relationship, preferring to keep it out of the limelight. They seldom, if ever, attend premieres together. More recently, Holland explained his absence from red carpet events when Zendaya is promoting a new project, stating that he prefers not to overshadow her as it’s her time to shine. Additionally, he shared why they work well together, which will be beneficial in their upcoming collaboration for Christopher Nolan’s next film.
Last night at the Golden Globes, Zendaya was nominated for her role in “Challengers”. Although she didn’t win the main award, her sparkling engagement ring drew attention, hinting that her Spider-Man partner has excellent taste when it comes to big diamonds. Truthfully, they deserve applause because they appear to have a strong and loving relationship, handling fame gracefully like experienced professionals.
In the upcoming, unnamed fourth Spider-Man movie, Tom Holland will once again take on his web-slinging role. This project is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who is known for directing Shang-Chi. The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2026.
