A Deadpool & Wolverine Scene Was Written To ‘Trick’ Chris Evans Into Joining The Movie, But He Had One Stipulation Of His Own

The Marvel Universe consistently keeps its audience excited with an ongoing stream of fresh projects in cinemas and through Disney+ subscriptions. The latest blockbuster to grace the silver screen is “Deadpool & Wolverine“, a film that shattered box office records, demonstrating the enduring appeal of the shared universe. In the action-packed “Deadpool 3“, Chris Evans made an unexpected and uncensored appearance as Human Torch. The scene featuring “Deadpool & Wolverine” was cleverly scripted to lure Evans into the movie, but he had a condition of his own to fulfill. Here’s what happened behind the scenes.

Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order were treated to all sorts of easter eggs and cameos in Deadpool 3. Chris Evans has spoken about his role, and excitement over Johnny Storm’s potty mouth. But a clip of Ryan Reynolds on CantinaTalks reveals that he wasn’t always sure the Captain America actor would be down to join the fun. As Reynolds put it:

Chris and I have a past of exchanging roles in films, and when it came to this opportunity, he was more than eager to participate. Since I penned a scene where Deadpool acknowledges him as an unparalleled trash-talker, it wasn’t me making those comments. He is the epitome of extreme trash-talking. Honestly, I have to admire his skills. However, in the movie, you might think, ‘But he doesn’t speak like that. Deadpool is just setting up another character for a fatal encounter.’ Which, as we all know, Deadpool excels at quite proficiently.

Even though Evans had only a small part, his performance in Deadpool & Wolverine was quite a thrill ride. Initially, fans and Deadpool thought he was playing Captain America again, but it turned out to be the Human Torch instead. And when Cassandra Nova brutally killed him, it was surprising because the movie later showed that he had actually given an intense verbal attack against the villain in a hidden scene at the end.

As a movie buff, I must say, Chris Evans made quite an appearance in “Free Guy,” indicating his eagerness to collaborate with Ryan Reynolds again, and that playful spirit is evident! Interestingly enough, the script for “Deadpool & Wolverine” seemed to have sparked Evans’ interest in rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe… but with a twist. Later on, Reynolds shared that the bonus scene featuring Johnny Torch became particularly significant to Evans, and he expressed it as follows:

“The extra bit for Johnny Torch turned out to be something I couldn’t ignore.

Originally, I penned a line specifically to persuade Chris into accepting it. It resembles saying, “However, there’s another scene you might find amusing.” This particular moment is so hilarious that it must be included in the film. Interestingly, Chris consented to participate in the movie solely on the condition that this tag remains part of it. I completely understand his stance.

I agree with you wholeheartedly! The bonus scene featuring Evans was absolutely side-splitting, and it showed a much more profane side of him than we ever saw from Steve Rogers. Given the running gag in Age of Ultron about Cap’s dislike of swearing, this scene was an extra treat for longtime fans like myself.

It has been speculated that Evans might take on a new role in “Avengers: Doomsday“, though the final details will depend on how the next two Marvel films directed by the Russo Brothers unfold.

Brave New World” on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Right now, take a look at the scheduled release dates for movies in 2025.
