Apple plans to stream one of its major events for free, hoping that the increased viewership will encourage people to sign up for their Apple TV+ streaming service.
On Thursday, Roku announced that fans can stream the entire first season of “Severance” exclusively on their Roku Channel until January 19th, offering a unique viewing experience for enthusiasts.
The initiative is linked with the premiere of Season 2 of “Severance” on Apple TV+, scheduled for January 17. Alongside the first season, Roku Channel will offer a sneak peek at Season 2 of the thriller starring Adam Scott, along with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. Furthermore, users can enjoy three months of Apple TV+ subscription free of charge.
The fan experience can be easily accessed right from the main Roku screen, highlighting the prominent position of this partnership. With around 90 million users, Roku is one of the largest free streaming video platforms available today.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to announce our collaboration with Apple before the highly awaited second season of Severance. This unique partnership allows us to craft an extraordinary experience specifically for our fans, accessible across millions of U.S. households – a first, as Apple TV+ content will now be available on the Roku Channel!
The essence of the Roku platform lies in its ability to team up with renowned brands like Apple, creating tailored experiences that resonate with our viewers while helping our partners achieve their objectives. It’s an exciting step forward for us!
This agreement emphasizes the extent and influence of Roku’s platform, and it represents just one more instance where Apple is making a significant effort to create excitement and attract subscribers for Apple TV+.
Over the past weekend, Apple decided to offer Apple TV+ for free to everyone from January 3rd to 5th as a way to allow people to try out their content, which features shows such as Ted Lasso, Slow Horses, and The Morning Show.
Previously, Apple struck an agreement with Amazon during autumn, enabling Apple TV+ content to be available on Prime Video Channels. This means that users can now conveniently subscribe and view the content directly from the widely-used streaming platform.
Nevertheless, presenting a popular series such as “Severance” on a cost-free streaming platform like Roku Channel (even if an earlier season) is another step taken by the company to make their content more reachable for a wider audience. This move also indicates their confidence that viewers will continue to stay tuned after trying it out.
Previously, a similar arrangement has been made. For instance, AMC Networks struck a deal with Netflix last year, allowing older seasons of several of their shows to stream on Netflix. The intention behind this was to attract viewers to their own AMC+ platform for the latest episodes.
In the vast expanse of the streaming universe, where size truly matters, I find myself becoming more visible as a gamer, striving to attract viewers to my content. The bigger platforms are reaping the benefits, leaving the smaller streamers like me eager to capture some attention for our gaming programs.
