Milo Ventimiglia announced that he and his expectant wife, Jarah Mariano, unfortunately had to say goodbye to their Malibu residence due to the destructive wildfires in Los Angeles.
The popular actor, recognized for his performances in “This Is Us” and “Gilmore Girls”, shared with CBS News that his house was destroyed by the Palisades Fire which swept through their area. On Tuesday, his family had to evacuate and they watched on security cameras as the flames engulfed their home.
He mentioned that there’s a point when you suddenly realize that something is actually happening, and then at some stage, you decide to stop watching. It’s as if to say, ‘What purpose does it serve to keep watching?’ They seemed to have come to terms with the loss.
Mariano and Ventimiglia are on the brink of welcoming their first child soon, and the actor mentioned that they’ve already prepared the nursery for their new arrival. This tragic news makes the heartache all the more difficult to comprehend.
Struggling to keep emotions in check, Ventimiglia expressed that it was a weighty feeling to return to his home amidst the devastation. He went on to mention how memories from various areas of his house flooded his mind, only to be followed by the sight of his neighbors’ homes and the surrounding area, causing his heart to ache deeply.
However, he told CBS News, “We’ll make do” as his “wife and baby and dog are most important.”
The actor who plays Jack Pearson on “This Is Us” admitted that the plotline of life imitating art, as he managed to rescue his family members from a house fire, which was a significant event in the show. However, tragically, his character eventually passed away due to smoke inhalation.
Mandy Moore, a fellow star in the TV series “This Is Us” set in Ventimiglia, announced on Wednesday that her residence in Altadena, California had been destroyed by the Eaton Fire. On Instagram, she posted, “This is Altadena. Completely leveled.” She expressed deep sadness for those who have suffered tremendous losses and stated, “I’m utterly devastated and numb.
On a Thursday, Moore went back to her neighborhood and climbed the street to take in the devastation. She wrote in her post, “Amazingly, the core of our house is still standing, at least for now. It’s not habitable but generally intact,” she explained, posting images of what’s left of her family home. “Every home on our street has been destroyed. My in-laws, my brother and sister-in-law who were six weeks away from the arrival of their first child, our best friends – everyone lost everything. I can’t help but feel an odd sense of survivor’s guilt. We cherish this community and will do all we can to assist in its rebuilding and support.

On Tuesday, a wildfire ignited in Pacific Palisades, subsequently spreading into sections of Malibu and Santa Monica through the night. By Thursday evening, Governor Gavin Newsom reported that the Palisades Fire was 6% contained. Meanwhile, two other ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles region – the Eaton and Woodley fires – remain uncontained at zero percent. The Lidia fire is currently 40% contained, while the Hurst fire stands at 10% containment, as reported by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
On Wednesday evening, a new fire, known as the Sunset Fire, ignited in the Hollywood Hills. This fire posed a threat to several well-known landmarks, including the Hollywood Bowl, as well as other popular tourist spots. However, by Thursday morning, firefighters successfully contained the blaze, and all evacuation orders were rescinded.
On a Thursday afternoon, emergency personnel were dealing with another blaze, known as the Kenneth Fire, which ignited in West Hills, California, near residential areas like Calabasas and Hidden Hills. By 5 p.m., the fire had scorched approximately 800 acres of dry vegetation, fueled by strong Santa Ana winds.
