Colm Meaney to Get Irish Academy Lifetime Achievement Honor

On a noteworthy note, the esteemed Irish actor Colm Meaney, recognized for his roles in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” and “In the Land of Saints & Sinners,” will be honored with the Irish Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement. This recognition is bestowed upon him for his exceptional contributions to both the Irish and global screen industry, as announced by the Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) on Friday.

Meaney expressed more than just surprise when he learned that IFTA planned to bestow an award upon him. He was absolutely taken aback, in fact. To be invited to follow in the footsteps of such a distinguished group of past recipients is a tremendous honor, and he’s overjoyed and eagerly anticipating a memorable evening in Dublin.

IFTA (Imagine Film & Television Academy) praised his illustrious career that spans over five decades, highlighting the fact that he has collaborated with some of the most distinguished filmmakers like John Huston, Robert Redford, Michael Mann, Jim Sheridan, Neil Jordan, Alan Parker, Warren Beatty, and Ron Howard. Actors such as Al Pacino, Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Bruce Willis, Anjelica Huston, Hugh Grant, Nicolas Cage, John Malkovich, Julie Walters, Brian Cox, Samuel L. Jackson, James Caan, Burt Reynolds, Patrick Stewart, and Michael Gambon are among the many talented individuals with whom he has shared the screen during this time.

At the 22nd International Film & Television Awards (IFTA) ceremony, scheduled for Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025, Meaney will receive the award. The nominees for this year will be announced on January 14, 2025. The event will take place at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre.

Meaney has also guest-starred on such TV shows as Law & Order and The Simpsons.
