Maison Margiela Unveils First-Ever Lunar New Year Collection

As John Galliano steps away from Maison Margiela, the Parisian fashion house continues to be active. On Friday, they unveiled their inaugural Lunar New Year collection, a three-piece series themed around “The Renewal” and honoring the Year of the Snake.

As a devoted admirer, I’d express it this way: “I find myself captivated by Margiela’s enchanting collection, which seems to encapsulate the mystical phases of the moon. It skillfully blends celestial symbolism with the deep connections between our perceptions and the world around us, the moon and the earth, dreams and the progression of time.

In this design, you’ll find a combination of items: a hooded sweatshirt, a T-shirt, and a colorful silk scarf. The hoodie and tee are both in soft shades of cream and white. They feature a straightforward “Renewal” graphic on the chest, which is an intricate design showcasing various lunar phases surrounding a full moon, embroidered with the Chinese character for “snake.

Meanwhile, the silk scarf draws inspiration from the classic game, Snakes and Ladders. The edge showcases various stages of the moon, while the main pattern features intricate snake drawings climbing up vibrant ladders throughout its design.

The latest Maison Margiela Lunar New Year assortment can be purchased both online and at the brand’s physical stores. Have a peek at the selection displayed in the gallery above.
