In the present, California is grappling with a severe crisis as wildfires persistently burn through Southern California. Consequently, numerous residents have chosen to evacuate and unfortunately, some have lost their homes. Given that Los Angeles serves as the hub of the entertainment world, several high-profile events on the red carpet have been called off, and filming schedules have been disrupted. Now, it appears that yet another CBS show slated for the 2025 television lineup has encountered a delay due to the ongoing wildfires.
Among the upcoming shows on Eye Network this year is a revival of the beloved game show “Hollywood Squares”, originally titled as such. Fans who were in the loop may have known that it was slated to air last Thursday, January 9. However, due to the ongoing California wildfires, the network decided to postpone the premiere. As reported by TVLine, the decision was made because the show’s humorous content seemed incongruous with the ongoing fire coverage. Consequently, it will now be aired on Thursday, January 16 at 8 p.m. ET.
The game show “Hollywood Squares” first aired on NBC in 1966 and ended its original broadcast in 1980. Since then, it has been shown again on various networks during the 1980s up until the early 2000s. In this game, two contestants play an oversized version of tic-tac-toe with a large board featuring famous celebrities. Each star is posed a question by one of the players, and their job is to guess whether the celebrity’s response is correct. The contestants are ultimately vying for cash and prizes.
In this new version of the popular game show IP, renowned for being one of the greatest ever made, Nate Burleson – a well-known media figure and former NFL player – is the host. Additionally, Drew Barrymore has been selected to occupy the crucial center square role. It’s been announced that Drew Carey, Jay Leno, Tyra Banks, Bobby Moynihan, Tiffany Haddish, and more notable personalities will make appearances as celebrity guests.
Currently, some other CBS shows have been affected by the fires in and around Los Angeles, just like NCIS, spinoff prequel series Origins, Poppa’s House, The Neighborhood, The Price Is Right, and After Midnight. Additionally, the network chose not to broadcast a repeat of Fire Country, a popular drama about a fire protection unit based in California, on Friday out of respect for the real-life situation unfolding in that state.
Various productions are adjusting their plans due to recent unfortunate incidents. Shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Abbott Elementary, and The Rookie in LA, along with NBC’s Suits L.A. and Happy’s Place, have temporarily halted filming. Similar situations apply to streaming titles like The Pitt, Loot, Ted, and Hacks, and the sci-fi series Fallout is experiencing delays as well.
In this particular situation, prioritizing the safety of the many individuals dealing with fires is undeniably crucial. It’s understandable that viewers miss seeing shows like Hollywood Squares and others on their screens. However, it’s commendable that networks such as CBS, along with others, appear to be taking extra precautions when it comes to their programming in these challenging times.
