Recently, many discussions have been revolving around politics. An awkward instance of this was his talk with actor Jon Cryer.

On this particular episode, Cryer, who leans strongly left, and Maher, who identifies as progressive yet willing to critique his own camp, found themselves in disagreement. This was a foreseeable conflict given their contrasting viewpoints.

That’s exactly what happened.

The conversation, which became awkward, saw both the host and visitor struggling to transition away from sensitive subjects unsuccessfully. This incident further exposed Cryer’s views on women’s rights and American electorate that were not particularly commendable.

Maher promptly questioned Cryer about the latest election outcomes, pointing out that immigration posed challenges for the Democratic campaign.

I’ve emphasized this point multiple times, a stance that seemed unpopular with many progressive supporters, but looking back, I believe I was on the right track. This is likely what cost the Democrats the election.”

Or more casually:
“I kept saying it, and it didn’t seem to sit well with some of the ‘super woke’, but I think they missed the point. It might have been this stance that lost the Democrats the election.

In a different perspective, Cryer argued that Democrats shifted their stance towards less “woke” issues during the presidential campaign. The former star of “Two and a Half Men” attributed their election loss on November 5 to rising inflation rates. However, he didn’t limit his explanation there.

Many Americans strongly dislike high inflation, civil unrest, and discrimination against women of African descent, as well as the transgender community.

That didn’t sit well with Maher.

“Oh, god, Jon. Oh, yeah, we shouldn’t talk politics.”

“We shouldn’t. Great. We don’t have to,” Cryer said.

They couldn’t stop, though.

At some point, Cryer chose not to criticize cultures that veil women completely, an act that left Maher astonished.

The discussion was enlightening yet uncomfortable. It’s probable that Cryer doesn’t often encounter open opposition to his progressive opinions in public. Maher, who is generally considerate, could have shifted the focus of their conversation away from the political debate earlier, as he initiated it right off the bat.

Without delving too deeply, it was evident that Cryer’s political views would make the conversation awkward, and indeed, that’s how things turned out.
