Anti-Trump Hollywood Fundraiser Starved for Stars

The Hollywood Reporter frets the Tinsel Town Resistance won’t get a sequel.

The Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday did not criticize President-elect Donald Trump. However, this prestigious event, which traditionally showcases top Hollywood talent, is expected to proceed with many names that are not widely known among the general public.

Cruel? Maybe. Accurate? Yes.

As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, I’m excited to share that the “Concert for America” – a fundraising event bringing together various progressive organizations – is set to commence on January 20th, also known as Inauguration Day for our newly elected President.

In 2017, some of the same individuals assembled to voice their opposition in a manner similar to Trump’s arrival in Washington D.C., although they may not have explicitly phrased it this way. Notably, this event drew several familiar faces.

Consider artists such as Betty Buckley, Bebe Neuwirth, Billy Porter, Ben Vereen, Rosie Perez, Caroline Rhea, Richard Kind, among others. This event helped accumulate funds for organizations like the NAACP, Planned Parenthood, Southern Poverty Law Center, National Immigration Law Center, and the Sierra Club Foundation.

In late this month, Trump will return to the White House, and there’s another Concert for America event scheduled, which is likely to benefit organizations with liberal leanings again. This could be seen as an opportunity for a follow-up to the resistance movement that many anticipated following Trump’s election victory on November 5th.

This time around, the list of celebrities seems unfamiliar. Deadline.com highlights the stars joining forces for comparable initiatives.

Here are the performers: Ali Stroker, Anika Larsen, Ann Harada, Arielle Jacobs, Brenda Braxton, Bryce Pinkham, Charlotte d’Amboise, Hennessy Winkler, Jessica Vosk, Judy Gold, Judy Kuhn, Julie Benko, Keala Settle, Kelli O’Hara, Lili Thomas, Lilli Cooper, Liz Callaway, Merle Dandridge, Nina West, Pearl Sun, Piper Perabo, Scarlett Strallen, and Shayna Steele.

For this year’s event, Perez has returned, while Perabo is somewhat recognized in the activist scene within Hollywood. Another notable figure is Cecily Strong, who previously worked on “Saturday Night Live”.

In recent times, some prominent celebrities such as Rachel Zegler, Hugh Jackman, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Rachel McAdams, Daniel Radcliffe, among others, have been drawn to Broadway.

They didn’t want to be a face of the Trump 2.0 resistance, apparently.

The event frames itself as apolitical, but a quick look at the comments suggests otherwise.

Seth Rudetsky, as co-producer, stated that they would not only participate on Inauguration Day, offering entertainment and calls to action, but also throughout the subsequent four years.

Can’t utter Trump’s name, of course, in the grand Voldemort tradition.

The event’s political purpose isn’t hard to suss out. according to Deadline:

Participants hailing from various involved parties will take part in this initiative, recounting their personal experiences and making it clear to spectators what actions they can effortlessly perform during the occasion itself and beyond, for ongoing assistance.
