Ariana Grande Is ’Flattered’ Fans Want Her To Play Meg In Disney’s Live-Action Hercules, But I Love Her Pick Even More

Ariana Grande is garnering a lot of acclaim for her exceptional portrayal of Glinda in the movie version of Wicked, and it’s certainly merited. Although she’s famous for her singing skills, Grande proved her acting mettle in this musical film, even earning a 2025 Golden Globe nomination this year. Now, fans are eagerly anticipating if the artist from Positions will take on another musical role, specifically in Hercules, as Meg. However, she has her own idea about who would be perfect for that part.

In a recent conversation with Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, Ariana Grande discussed her busy year that encompassed both the stage production of ‘Wicked’ and the launch of her new album titled ‘Eternal Sunshine’. There were also whispers about her potential involvement in the upcoming live-action remake of ‘Hercules’, following her Actors on Actors session with Paul Mescal. When questioned about her interest in portraying Megara, the witty, antagonistic female lead character in the movie, Grande suggested a friend and previous co-star as a more suitable choice instead.

It’s quite amusing since I used to sing the roles of the Muses as a child. [laughs] … I’ve encountered some of it, but we’ve never really talked about it. While I enjoy taking on different roles through transformation, and I’m intrigued by the concept of a more complex character like Megara, I believe it’s important to mention this: I think Elizabeth Gillies would be perfect for the role of Megara. Have you met my friend Liz Gillies? She’s extraordinarily talented. Oh boy, that role would suit her marvelously.

It’s clear as day! Elizabeth Gillies boasts an exceptionally talented singing voice, and her witty humor displayed as Jade in Victorious would undoubtedly fit Meg perfectly. She also possesses the right physical appearance and would shine on the big screen. Fans have proposed this idea before, but with Ariana Grande endorsing it, it seems like a genuine prospect.

In another scenario, the actor from “Don’t Look Up” could also work wonderfully, adding a touch of charm to the role. However, Miss Gillies possesses a unique rhythm in her delivery that seems perfectly suited to embody the spirit of the animated character.

Additionally, I’m fond of the concept of Grande being portrayed as one of the Muses. Previously, she nailed “Zero to Hero” for the 2015 album “We Love Disney.” The singing narrators are undeniably the standout aspect of the original film, and I believe they have the catchiest tunes. In the movie, there are five Muses, but perhaps four other renowned pop stars could also assume secondary roles. Moreover, having Grande as a Muse and Gillies as Meg would be a long-awaited “Victorious” reunion for fans. Their duet on “I Won’t Say (I’m in Love)” would undoubtedly be breathtaking.

The “Side to Side” singer also jokingly suggested another Hercules role she could play, saying:

That’s how I honestly feel. I’m very flattered. You know what? I should play the Danny DeVito role.

In the timeless Disney animation, Danny DeVito voices Phil, a grouchy satyr who mentors Hercules. Although Ariana Grande might not perfectly fit this character, the concept is undeniably amusing. This is merely fan-casting speculation, as Disney hasn’t revealed the live-action Hercules‘ cast yet, which the Russo Brothers are set to direct. Nevertheless, voicing this dream into reality could possibly spark some action. I believe that Ariana Grande and Elizabeth Gillies would excel in the film if given the opportunity.

Disney hasn’t specified a release date for their upcoming live-action remake yet, leaving fans wondering when more information will be shared. In the interim, they can enjoy rewatching the original animated “Hercules” by streaming it with a Disney+ subscription. Additionally, audiences can catch Ariana Grande in the theater production of “Wicked,” which is currently running nationwide.
