Rachel Maddow Returns to Hosting Nightly on MSNBC in Post-Inauguration Push

MSNBC’s popular host, Rachel Maddow, is set to resume her 9 p.m. weekday program more frequently starting this month, appearing for five nights weekly as part of an interim arrangement linked to the early phase (first 100 days) of the Trump administration.

On Mondays and during significant news events, Maddow graciously takes the helm of her program. Meanwhile, Alex Wagner assumes hosting duties for the 9 p.m. slot from Tuesday to Friday.

Starting from Inauguration Day, January 20th, you’ll find Rachel Maddow resuming her role as the host each evening at 9 o’clock.

As a dedicated fan, I’ll soon embark on a nationwide journey that MSNBC has dubbed “Trumpland: The First 100 Days.” During this trip, I’ll be delving deep into the heartland of our country to report on the effects and implications of President Trump’s initial policies.

Both Rachel Maddow and Alex Wagner will return to their normal schedules beginning May 1.

Rashida Jones, president of MSNBC, stated that we’re entering a significant phase in American politics. The current situation demands comprehensive coverage of the new administration, not just from Washington where policies are being enacted, but also by speaking to those in crucial communities and constituencies affected by these policies. Alex Wagner, our fearless correspondent, is uniquely suited to deliver these stories from the front lines straight to MSNBC viewers.

As a gamer, I’m hyped about MSNBC’s plans for Trump’s inaugural! They’re gathering their top afternoon and evening hosts to bring us the action. Maddow, Nicolle Wallace, Joy Reid, Ari Melber, Chris Hayes, Alex Wagner, Lawrence O’Donnell, Stephanie Ruhle, and even Jen Psaki will be there for coverage. This is going to be a fantastic event!

Maddow is the most-watched host during primetime on MSNBC by a considerable margin. Since her contract renewal in 2021, she has diversified her work, moving into film production (such as “Bag Man” and “Ultra”), podcasting, and various other projects.

In 2022, she reduced the frequency of her daily show and moved to a weekly broadcast instead. Alex Wagner was chosen as her replacement for the remaining days of the week.

In 2023, Maddow shared with The Hollywood Reporter that her latest position demands significantly more effort on her part.

She mentioned that by having a weekly show, she learned to effectively separate tasks. The team established a rhythm such that, barring extraordinary circumstances, they wouldn’t contact each other during the weekend. This approach helped them dodge burnout for quite some time. Now, her work life is no longer easily separable and she’s still figuring it out. Instead of working five days, she works seven, but it doesn’t feel as exhausting.

For the next several months, we can expect to hear that familiar rhythm again, especially during significant news events at MSNBC, who likely anticipate their devoted audience will appreciate having their most incisive commentator on-screen each evening.
