Despite having starred in what was considered the worst superhero movie of 2024 and landing a leading role in one of the best original sci-fi shows to date, actor Adam Scott hasn’t ruled out revisiting the superhero genre. Known for his upcoming appearance in Apple TV+’s second season of “Severance”, created by Dan Erikson and directed by Ben Stiller, Scott will return to our screens on January 17. The show should help restore his reputation following his supporting role in 2024’s “Madame Web” as a younger Uncle Ben Parker (before he assumed that role).
In an interview with ComicBook to talk about the second season of Severance, Adam Scott hinted at the possibility of him returning to the realm of comic book films by saying, “Well, I guess it’s possible… though I don’t make a habit of promises.
Beyond his role in “Severance”, Scott is also widely recognized for portraying ‘King of the Nerds’, Ben Wyatt, on “Parks and Recreation”. Fans of this cherished sitcom will be thrilled to discover that Scott, like his character, has a fondness for superheroes: “I’d say it’s a genre I, personally, am drawn to as a viewer. I enjoy watching those films, I make sure not to miss any.
Despite being one of the least favorably received superhero films, Madame Web likely won’t mark the end of Scott’s appearances in such movies. This is because, as a child, he was deeply passionate about comics, having grown up in Santa Cruz, California, where The Lost Boys was filmed. In fact, the comic book store featured in The Lost Boys was his regular hangout spot for comic books. He shared this during an interview with SiriusXM’s Jess Cagle in 2022.
Although he hasn’t shared which comic books shaped his childhood, there’s an eagerness for Adam Scott to have another opportunity to make amends in the comic book world in the time ahead.
The Sony Spider-Man Villains Universe is Officially Dead
Should Scott make an appearance in another comic book movie, it’s unlikely he’ll be part of Sony’s Spider-Man villains shared universe. The disappointing reception and poor box office performance of movies like Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter have effectively sealed the fate of this franchise. In late 2024, Kraven the Hunter (starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the main character) was another box office bomb for the series, garnering similarly negative reviews. After the film’s run, Sony officially announced their decision to abandon the franchise, signaling the end of one of the least successful comic book movie series in history.
Despite not slowing down, Scott’s career trajectory has remained upward. On January 17, the second season of Severance will make its debut on Apple TV+. The first season was a remarkable success for the often overlooked streaming platform, garnering an almost perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating of 97%. Critics’ reviews for Season 2 are already coming in, and it boasts a similarly high-praised score of 94%.
