Ahead of the Game – Etheria: Restart’s badass Anima will have you rolling the gacha all too willingly

  • Save what’s left of the human race with loyal Animus
  • Collect ultra-cool characters with ultra-cool powers
  • Sneak past foes because you’re stealthy like that

Greetings and welcome to Ahead of Time Glimpse, a showcase where we share exciting details about an upcoming game that’s already accessible for you to enjoy at the moment of broadcast. In this series, you’ll have the opportunity to experience games before their official release, either through Soft Launch, Beta Openings, Demos, or similar means.

In many Japanese Role-Playing Games (JRPGs), you’ll find numerous post-apocalyptic journeys. Etheria: Restart is no exception. Here, you assume a role of authority, tasked with guiding a band of dedicated warriors. Together, you aim to preserve the remnants of humanity.

At first, I assumed that XD’s forthcoming content would be just another ordinary anime-style gacha game. However, upon completing the initial two chapters, I discovered it is far from typical.

One noticeable aspect is the exceptional quality of animations, featuring cinematic scenes (thanks to Unreal Engine!) and dialogues that are fully voice-acted, resembling top-tier games within the same genre. Furthermore, the characters are beautifully designed, making them hard to resist collecting. This might lead to exceeding your budget when the game officially launches.

Indeed, the characters possess an anime-inspired style, and they aren’t shy about incorporating Stands, reminiscent of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, into their roster of heroes. However, what truly stands out is the incredible design of these characters; they exude a badass aura that makes them truly captivating. Moreover, it’s fantastic to see that this series introduces ultra-cool male characters right from the beginning.

It’s quite unusual to find games like HUSBANDOS in mobile gacha RPGs. But when you add the unique Anima powers that transform into colossal phoenixes and ominous grim reapers, it’s hard not to be enticed by the allure of the gacha system.

Mobile gacha RPGs don’t often feature games like HUSBANDOS. However, when you throw in Anima powers that transform into massive phoenixes and sinister grim reapers, it becomes difficult to resist the magnetic pull of the gacha mechanism.

Firstly, let me clarify that while this game has a unique style, its gameplay is equally engaging. It’s not an open-world adventure as such, but it does offer flexibility in navigation, allowing you to traverse various chapters and levels. A distinctive feature of the game is the ability to sneak past enemies. You can hide behind corners, approach unaware corrupted creatures, and if desired, surprise attack them.

In this game, battles occur in rounds where each side takes turns to act (unfortunately, there are no means to avoid automatic fights). You have tactical abilities at your disposal that can shift the momentum of a fight towards your advantage.

Reminds me a lot of Honkai: Star Rail (at least what I experienced when it initially came out), and since the HoYoverse franchise has skyrocketed, it seems reasonable to be optimistic about the future of Etheria’s digital realm.

So, how do you play Etheria: Restart?

Etheria: Restart has soft-launched in select regions on Android, but if you don’t find it on your app store, fret not – its global Closed Beta Test is currently underway until January 20th. This means it might not be too long before we can witness an official global launch, but until then, you pre-register on the
official website
to join the fight.
