Although updates on The Elder Scrolls VI are yet to be revealed, it’s rumored that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will make its way onto modern gaming systems, as suggested in a recent podcast by Nate the Hate.
As per Nate’s statement, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is expected to be powered by the Unreal Engine 5, much like Black Myth: Wukong and the upcoming The Witcher 4. This transition will undoubtedly make the landscape of Cyrodil and its surrounding towns visually captivating due to the enhanced lighting and global illumination features offered by Unreal Engine 5.
Although Bethesda hasn’t made an official announcement, rumors point towards a June 2025 launch for the overhauled remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. This reimagined version is expected to undergo significant changes in several aspects including Stamina, Sneak, Archery, and user interface (HUD), as well as many other gameplay mechanics.
In its original form, the game’s mechanics were perceived as cumbersome and inefficient compared to modern standards. However, the remake is planned to streamline these issues, particularly the Blocking mechanic, which will be redesigned to resemble that of Souls games and many contemporary action titles. This adjustment could significantly enhance the pleasure derived from melee combat. Additionally, archery is set for an upgrade, ensuring a seamless experience for both first-person and third-person perspectives.
We’ll be able to play Skyrim’s iconic stealth archer build, after all.
It seems unlikely that a remake for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be unveiled during the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct event, possibly due to focus on another title called Avowed.
It’s likely that Bethesda and Microsoft will prioritize revealing details about Avowed over The Elder Scrolls, as announcing The Elder Scrolls before Avowed could potentially overshadow the game scheduled for release on February 18, 2025.
Enthusiasts of The Elder Scrolls series are buzzing with anticipation over the whispers, yet they remain cognizant of the fan-created undertaking known as Skyblivion – a mod for Skyrim that intends to merge Oblivion into Skyrim’s game engine. Even with rumors swirling about Bethesda’s upcoming official release, many fans continue to eagerly await this project.
If Bethesda were to release a lower-quality remake of Skyrim, given the recent decrease in excitement for Starfield, it’s likely that many fans would prefer to play the Skyrim mod instead.
