This spring, a special two-hour concert focusing on the legacy of Ringo Starr, interpreted through country music, is set to be broadcast. Money raised from the star-studded rendition of “With a Little Help From My Friends” will go towards supporting the American Red Cross and those affected by the California wildfires.
In the United States, “Ringo & Friends at the Ryman” – a concert special set to air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ – is scheduled to record on Tuesday and Wednesday at the iconic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The event follows the release of Ringo Starr’s country album titled “Look Up” by a week, which was produced and co-written by T Bone Burnett. During the special, Ringo Starr will perform tracks from his new album, as well as his solo hits and classic Beatles songs.
At the upcoming TV show, Starr will be accompanied by Jack White, Sheryl Crow, Brenda Lee, Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris, Mickey Guyton, Sarah Jarosz, Jamey Johnson, Billy Strings, The War and Treaty, Larkin Poe, and Molly Tuttle. Further guest artists will be disclosed at a later time.
Starr expressed his excitement about performing at the Ryman this time around, as it’s going to have a country twist! T Bone has put together an amazing lineup, and I can’t wait to hear my tunes with a country flair and perform alongside these remarkable musicians. It promises to be two nights filled with peace, love, and country music!
In addition to performing at the Ryman, Ringo Starr and his bandmates will discuss how country music affected their lives, the Beatles, and Starr’s solo career. Furthermore, the guest artists will recount stories about Starr’s influence on their own music. The production is a joint effort by Burnett and Van Toffler of Gunpowder & Sky, with Michael Lohmann serving as director.
Ringo Starr has earned more goodwill than any other person globally, a fact that isn’t an exaggeration according to Burnett. On January 14 and 15, some exceptional artists are gathering at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, to showcase this. Before joining The Beatles, Ringo Starr was already into country music, and many of the songs he performed with the band were country tunes, such as ‘Matchbox’, ‘Honey Don’t’, ‘Act Naturally’, ‘What Goes On?’, ‘Don’t Pass Me By’, and even ‘Octopus’s Garden’, though it might not be immediately obvious that this is a country song. The city of Nashville is brimming with talented musicians, and Ringo Starr and the other artists will be accompanied by an outstanding band comprising some of Nashville’s most exceptional musicians.
In his statement, Toffler – founder of Gunpowder & Sky in 2016 and producer of Emmy-nominated projects like Dolly Parton’s Pet Gala and The Notorious B.I.G. Sky’s The Limit: A VR Concert Experience – expressed excitement about producing a special with Ringo and T Bone, featuring some of the greatest musicians in the industry. He mentioned that Ringo and his bandmates introduced him and many others to American rockabilly classics with their distinctive Liverpudlian spin on Carl Perkins and other artists. The special will feature these musicians performing Ringo’s songs, including some Beatles classics. Toffler is looking forward to an extraordinary night at the Mother Church of Country Music, which holds a special significance as it was the same network that introduced the Beatles to America 61 years ago.
