- Dragon Quest X, one of the most recent entries in the hit series, is coming to mobile, but only in Japan
- Japanese fans can nab Dragon Quest X with offline functionality for a discounted price
- But a global release doesn’t appear to be on the cards, yet
For a while now, dedicated Dragon Quest enthusiasts have been acquainted with the various games in this series, including its spin-offs. Yet, one title that didn’t receive much attention was the MMORPG-like Dragon Quest X. Fortunately, it seems that fans in Japan will soon have another chance to experience this game, as the offline mobile version is set to launch tomorrow on both iOS and Android devices!
According to Gematsu’s report, Japanese Dragon Quest enthusiasts can now buy a standalone version of Dragon Quest X, designed exclusively for single-player use, on both iOS and Android devices. Interestingly enough, Ubisoft had planned to release a mobile version of Dragon Quest X as early as 2013!
Unlike most Dragon Quest games, X offers a range of MMORPG-style elements, such as real-time battle mechanics, which are less common within the series. The standalone version was launched in 2022 for consoles and PC, following the original’s release in 2012.
Here be dragons
Regrettably, I can’t promise a worldwide launch for Dragon Quest X anytime soon. Originally, it was only released in Japan, so a global release isn’t guaranteed. As for a mobile offline version, there’s currently no news or indications that it’s in development.
I was quite disappointed, being a dedicated Dragon Quest fan due to the countless hours I invested in Sentinels of the Starry Sky, and having the chance to explore a new take on the series on my mobile device would have been truly delightful for me.
