Netflix’s popular anime series One Piece wrapped up filming for Season 2 in South Africa last year, and now we’re getting more tidbits about the exciting voyage to the Grand Line. The second season is set to unfold with Monkey D. Luffy (played by Iñaki Godoy) and his Straw Hat Pirates sailing through perilous seas and exploring fresh, vibrant destinations. The pirate gang will face off against formidable new adversaries and realms, including several significant figures from the crime organization Baroque Works. One of these characters has been confirmed for the live-action adaptation, along with two other antagonists from a renowned storyline.
Netflix’s official One Piece social media account announced that Sophia Anne Caruso will play Miss Goldenweek, Anton David Jeftha as K.M., and Mark Penwill as Chess in Season 2. Miss Goldenweek is a significant new character for the series, hinting at the coverage of key storylines such as Little Garden. As part of Baroque Works and Mr. 3’s associate, Miss Goldenweek possesses a unique power to control people with her colored paint. Meanwhile, Chess and K.M., although minor villains, work under the malevolent king of Drum Island, Wapol, during the same story arc that introduces Chopper to the group.
Sophia Anne Caruso is primarily recognized for her role in the 2022 Netflix fantasy movie “The School for Good and Evil,” having also made brief appearances in films like “I Am Number Four,” “Eagle Eye,” and “Evil.” On the other hand, Anton David Jeftha is widely recognized for his television work on shows such as “Legacy” and “Dominion,” while Mark Penwill has been seen in productions like “Warrior,” “FDR,” and the 2024 film “The Fix.” Despite having minor roles planned for “One Piece” Season 2, these actors could potentially secure their most significant careers to date.
What Is ‘One Piece’ Season 2 About?
In the upcoming second season of Netflix’s “One Piece,” the live-action version will ramp up the excitement following its initial premiere. The Straw Hat Pirates will set sail towards the Grand Line, a treacherous unexplored territory that every serious pirate yearns to navigate at some point. This region is filled with oceans teeming with colossal creatures and islands defying all known scientific laws, marking the true commencement of the “One Piece” adventure. Season 2 promises the appearance of a secret criminal syndicate called Baroque Works, as well as the long-awaited introduction of Chopper, who is destined to join Luffy’s pirate crew.
The scale of Season 2 for “One Piece” is so expansive that its storyline, which culminates in the famous Alabasta arc, is being divided into two seasons. The upcoming Season 3 will find the crew landing on a desert island kingdom, marking the start of a vast, thrilling adventure that promises to unfold over an entire season’s worth of episodes. Since it’s directly linked to the events of Season 2, production for Season 3 has already begun and is scheduled to be filmed later this year. On the other hand, fans can expect to see the second season of “One Piece” on Netflix by the end of 2025, which could coincide with Christmas day.
