Following Keke Palmer‘s disclosure about a racist comment her Scream Queens co-star allegedly made towards her during filming, she has provided insights into their current relationship status.
During an interview with the Los Angeles Times last year, the actress spoke about writing her memoir titled “Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Story,” where she shares stories from her career. In the book, she reminisces about her two seasons on the Fox series “Scream Queens” alongside Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Skyler Samuels, and Lea Michele. She mentioned an instance when creator Ryan Murphy supposedly labeled her as “unprofessional,” and a past co-star made a racially insensitive comment towards her while she attempted to resolve conflicts between them and another team member.
Palmer mentions that the individual replied, ‘Keke, simply not doable. Do you think I’m someone like Martin Luther King?’
Despite Palmer not disclosing who her co-star was who made the comment, she did mention that they haven’t offered an apology. In an interview with The Cut, published on Tuesday, Palmer stated that although this co-star has never apologized for their remark, they did send Palmer a congratulatory message on Instagram for her book release.
She replied, ‘I appreciate that, it’s nice,'” she said. “She was merely taking a reading. She understands her actions.
Regarding Murphy, who Palmer had previously accused of calling her “unprofessional” and harboring anger towards her for working a business obligation on a day she wasn’t initially scheduled for set work, Palmer shared with The Cut that she hasn’t received any direct communication from him since revealing the incident.
She stated, “I believe he interpreted my actions as possibly being hostile towards him, attempting to embarrass or stir up trouble. However, when I mentioned Ryan Murphy, it wasn’t about criticizing him or belittling his worth. Instead, I wanted to illustrate that I made choices for myself, and one of those decisions led to a conflict with a highly influential figure in the industry. Sometimes, on the path to personal success, you might have to make similar sacrifices.
After her role in “Scream Queens”, Palmer hasn’t collaborated with Murphy again, but she emphasized, “That was merely a job. It wasn’t my ultimate aim. It served as a stepping stone for me to develop the Keke Palmer brand.
In her recently published memoir on November 19th, Palmer discusses a variety of topics, including her battles with establishing boundaries, as well as themes such as unconditional love, forgiveness, and self-worth. Furthermore, she becomes quite open about the strategies she’s devised to seize control, manage her vulnerability, and acknowledge her role in shaping the story of her life. This empowerment enabled her to transform personal strength into significant influence.
