Over the past month, Selena Gomez‘s life has been a whirlwind of events. The business tycoon received nominations in both TV and film categories at the Golden Globes, with her Netflix musical drama “Emilia Pérez” creating quite a stir by winning four major awards. But that’s not all! The icing on the cake is that her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, recently popped the question to the actress from “Hotel Transylvania”. To top it off, Selena’s co-stars in “Only Murders In the Building” have also shared their well wishes for the lovebirds.
Fans of “Only Murders in the Building” will agree that a big part of its success is the friendly banter and strong bond between Mabel (Selena Gomez), Oliver (Martin Short), and Charles (Steve Martin). Interestingly, this camaraderie extends beyond the screen as well. Recently, the host of “Selena + Chef” talked about her engagement on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, sparking curiosity from the late-night host about whether Gomez sought approval from her “TV dads” before getting engaged. To this, Selena revealed that she didn’t need their permission.
He didn’t, but I have a feeling Marty wasn’t very happy about that.
Some individuals might find it unusual to propose marriage by seeking approval from a girlfriend’s co-stars. However, the bond between the members of the “Only Murders” trio has grown incredibly strong over their four seasons, with the established comedians warmly welcoming the “Wizards of Waverly Place” actress into their group right away.
It’s understandable that everyone would be overjoyed for the singer of “Lose You To Love Me,” and so it came as a surprise when Kimmel learned that Short was somewhat annoyed. However, she promptly clarified the situation, stating that the actor from “The Santa Clause 3” was joking, as he often does:
No, he just gave us a little bit of, you know, jokes here and there.
Indeed, in truth, he was incredibly helpful. As of now, the cast hasn’t begun filming Season 5 of “Only Murders”, so the Golden Globes might have been the initial opportunity for Gomez’s colleagues to see her since the engagement. The captivating ring on her finger drew everyone’s attention, and they couldn’t help but admire it. A bystander’s video recorded the older actor playfully fiddling with the ring on Gomez’s hand. Kimmel joked about him assessing the ring, but in reality, only Martin Short himself knows what he’s up to.
Regarding her other mentor and friend from “Only Murders”, the singer of “Hands to Myself” mentioned that Steve Martin extended his congratulations via email to her assistant. To be honest, it’s just the kind of thing you’d expect in a humorous manner. It was pointed out that late-night TV hosts might not realize their emails don’t directly reach the intended recipient (in this case, Gomez), and this shouldn’t be used to perpetuate stereotypes about older individuals and technology, but it’s likely accurate.
I’m excitedly counting down the days until these three beloved TV friends join forces once more in a fresh murder mystery for the new season, not to mention the adorable photos they’ll surely capture at Gomez’s upcoming wedding. Fingers crossed we get to witness it all! In the meantime, don’t forget to check the 2025 TV Schedule for the release date of Only Murders, and you can enjoy the critically acclaimed series Emilia Pérez right now by subscribing to Netflix.
