In the lineup for Street Fighter 6, you’ll find both old favorites and brand-new additions, as well as characters borrowed from other franchises, such as Terry Bogard who hails from Fatal Fury or King of Fighters.
In February, one of SNK’s iconic fighting girls will make her appearance, and quite appropriately, she’ll be squaring off against the emblematic female fighter from Street Fighter – Chun-Li.
Mai Shiranui Comes to Street Fighter 6
For the very first time, Capcom unveils the gameplay mechanics of Mai Shiranui, a skilled ninja combatant hailing from the worlds of “Fatal Fury” and “King of Fighters”. Here’s a sneak peek at her moves!
In Street Fighter 6, Mai maintains her classic appearance from the original series, but there’s also a skin inspired by her updated look for the upcoming Fatal Fury game due out in April. Here’s a glimpse of how Mai appears in that game:
Similar to other iconic Street Fighter characters, Mai was developed in the 1990s and has maintained her basic design over time. She is known for her traditional ninja appearance and combat style that involves using a fan. Furthermore, her abilities are primarily centered around fire elements.
It’s worth noting that Mai appears less overtly sexualized in her Street Fighter character design compared to how she seems to be portrayed in the upcoming Fatal Fury game, and it appears City of Wolves may not hold back on the sexualization of its characters.
How to Unlock Mai in the Game
I, as a gamer, am thrilled to be part of the Street Fighter universe as the latest combat master in the World Tour mode! Excitingly, I’ll be instantly accessible on launch day for those who own the Year 2 Character Pass/Ultimate Pass. For players eager to earn me through gameplay, you can collect Fighter Coins and work towards unlocking me!
Players have two options to acquire the “City of Wolves” outfit: by strengthening their relationship with Mai in the World Tour mode as much as possible, or by accumulating enough Fighter Coins. The choice is up to each player.
Who Else is Coming to the Game?
It seems that Street Fighter is planning to reintroduce its classic characters, as Terry and Mai from SNK are joining the game, hinting at a focus on original characters in the future. As per Red Bull, upcoming DLC characters include Elena (from SFIII), Seth (from SFIV), Rufus (also from SFIV), Sagat (SFII), and the humorous character Dan Hibiki (SF Alpha).
It’s uncertain when the next characters will be unveiled, but the appearance of Mai in the show aligns logically since some gamers are also anticipating the return of the Fatal Fury series in April. Although we won’t have access to that until a few months from now, at least Street Fighter offers playable favorites such as Terry and Mai in the meantime.
Keep in mind that the character roster is limited to Year 2 of Street Fighter 6. However, it’s plausible that additional characters might be introduced when we reach Year 3.
Mai Shiranui comes to Street Fighter 6 on Feb. 5 for PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
