After losing at Golden Globes 2025, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light earns BAFTA nomination

Payal Kapadia’s movie “All We Imagine As Light” has been praised internationally and has collected several notable awards during this award season. The film was nominated in multiple categories at the 2025 Golden Globes, but didn’t take home any trophies. Now, it has received another honor by being recognized with a BAFTA nomination.

2025, on January 15th, it was revealed that All We Imagine As Light is among the nominees for the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs). This film competes in the category of Film Not in the English Language, against Emilia Pérez, I’m Still Here (Ainda Estou Aqui), Kneecap, and The Seed Of The Sacred Fig.

The announcement was posted on the BAFTA’s (previously known as Twitter) account, where they shared a list of nominees and also extended their congratulations to the nominees for films not in the English language.

On February 16, 2025, the city of London will host an event where the recipients of the BAFTA awards will be announced.

In the lead roles of “All We Imagine As Light” are Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon. This movie was penned and helmed by Payal Kapadia. The film made its debut at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in 2024 to rave reviews. At this prestigious event, it took home the Grand Prix award, which is the second-highest accolade after the Palme d’Or.

Previously, “All We Imagine As Light” was shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2025 Golden Globes, whereas Payal Kapadia was chosen for the Best Director – Motion Picture category. The winners were disclosed on January 5, 2025. Unfortunately, AWIAL did not win, with Emilia Pérez taking the prize, and Payal also lost to Brady Corbet, who directed “The Brutalist”.

The film “All We Imagine As Light” is nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
