The “Hitman” video game series, where you control the enigmatic assassin Agent 47 as he globetrots to eliminate targets given by the secretive International Contract Agency (ICA), has previously been translated for the silver screen on two occasions. However, neither attempt seemed satisfactory to fans of the game, action enthusiasts, or indeed, anyone in general.

2007 saw the debut of Xavier Gens’ “Hitman,” starring Timothy Olyphant from “Deadwood” and “Justified” as Agent 47. The film portrays the contract killer who gets entangled in a political intrigue and is forced to flee. Regrettably, the follow-up in 2015, titled “Hitman: Agent 47,” also fell short of expectations, featuring Rupert Friend from “Obi-Wan Kenobi” as Agent 47 and pairing him with a woman seeking her father. Both films received poor reviews, scoring only 16% and 8% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s evident that there is significant potential for enhancement in this action series. Given the current boom in video game adaptations, it seems like an ideal moment to revitalize this franchise.

Despite the fact that Jason Statham is well-known and popular, there’s a question about whether he’d be suitable for the role of Agent 47 in a Hitman movie. Although the video game character is known for being monosyllabic, lacking emotion, and being a ruthless killer, Statham has built his fame on his tough persona, quick wit, and signature grin. Jason Statham will shortly resume his signature role, as he teams up once more with director David Ayer and writer Sylvester Stallone in the 2021 film titled “A Working Man“. Based on Chuck Dixon’s 2014 novel, the story revolves around Jason Statham portraying Levon Cade, a former Royal Marine who seeks to lead a peaceful life as a construction worker and devoted father. However, when a young girl is abducted by human traffickers, Levon is called upon to utilize his skills again to track down her whereabouts.

In addition to starring in “A Working Man” set for release on March 28, 2025, Jason Statham will assume the leading role in director Jean-François Richet’s film “Mutiny.” This story follows Statham as he evades capture after his wealthy industrialist employer is killed. As of now, “Mutiny” does not have a confirmed release date.
