As a passionate admirer, I find myself in the thick of it all, just like Snoop Dogg, as he grapples with the backlash from his performance at the Crypto Ball in Washington D.C., an event that took place prior to Donald Trump‘s inauguration on January 20th.
Upon the emergence of a video showing the rapper’s performance at the Friday evening gathering, which took place at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium and was organized by ex-PayPal COO David Sacks, there was widespread outrage and disbelief among fans online. The Shade Room shared a clip featuring Snoop (alongside Rick Ross and Soulja Boy), which ignited a torrent of criticism over the judge’s choice on “The Voice.” “This is culturally mortifying and beyond disrespectful,” one comment stated, while another wrote, “There’s no amount of money that could make it worth compromising my values… selling my soul to the Devil…
Previously with CNN, Don Lemon discussed Snoop Dogg and other Black hip-hop artists on his live broadcast, “Lemon LIVE at 5,” raising questions about whether they are more focused on making money rather than genuine passion or principles.
Actress Amanda Seales publicly criticized rapper Snoop Dogg on social media by sharing a combined video of his past performances along with an old video from Snoop’s Instagram where he expressed interest in performing for Donald Trump. In the resurfaced video, Snoop, who is 53 years old, said, “I’m waiting” and hinted at roasting whoever decides to perform for Trump. Amanda Seales responded by saying, “I hope it’s worth it.
Back in 2016, I, as a fan, shared one of many videos circulating where Snoop voiced his disapproval towards the president-elect. In July of that year, he posted a video on Instagram smoking while “FDT,” an anti-Trump protest song by YG and the late Nipsey Hussle, played in the background. He boldly declared, “We ain’t voting for your punk ass.” Later on, I, along with many others, watched as Snoop released a video for his “Nightfall Remix” of BADBADNOTGOOD’s “Lavendar,” in which he playfully shot a toy gun at a Donald Trump impersonator.
In 2019, during a government shutdown, rapper Snoop Dogg voiced his strong opinions about Trump ahead of the 2020 elections. He stated, “Anyone in the federal workforce who isn’t being paid at this moment, there’s no way on earth you could vote for Donald Trump again. If you do, then you’re just plain stupid.
@SnoopDogg criticized Trump severely, expressing his sympathy for federal employees who are currently not working due to the shutdown, implying that Trump doesn’t seem to care about their situation.

Snoop Dogg hasn’t made any comments about his performance on social media, instead he shared an Instagram story featuring him and Ross from the event. Notably, the California native has been encouraging his followers to donate and distribute essential items for those affected by the L.A. wildfires. This charitable initiative took place at his Snoopermarket in Inglewood last week.
