Currently, there’s lots of excitement swirling around the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not only about the upcoming movie “Captain America: Brave New World”, but also regarding potential changes within it. For instance, there are whispers that Marvel Studios might be considering recasting Black Panther‘s character T’Challa, following the passing of original actor Chadwick Boseman in 2020. However, these reports have not been officially confirmed or denied yet. Several actors have been connected to this role, one of them being Damson Idris, who has recently addressed these rumors with a humorous comment.
Similar to many famous personalities, Damson Idris keeps up with global entertainment trends through social media. The star of ‘Snowfall’ recently became aware of rumors suggesting he would play Wakanda’s king and warrior. He used X platform to repost about this, and the witty British actor’s reaction, which he shared, definitely brought a smile to my face:
Absolutely, Of course, sir. I declined the opportunity to work in James Bond (007) as a co-star alongside Daniel Day-Lewis, as well as a biographical film about Eddie Murphy that was also offered to me. 😄
It appears that the Swarm alum might not be seriously considering a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, given his recent statements. If he were, he’d likely keep quiet about it rather than discussing it openly. However, Disney is known for being secretive when it comes to actors revealing details before official announcements, so we may be interpreting his comments as a joke or playful tease.
It’s not unreasonable to suppose that Marvel Studios might take an interest in Damson Idris, given his impressive acting resume. After all, he gained significant recognition for his role as Franklin Saint on Snowfall, and since then, he has consistently landed key roles in high-profile productions. Moreover, Idris is slated to star in one of the most anticipated films of 2025 – F1. This film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, delves into the world of Formula 1 racing and brings Idris together with stars like Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem. As a fan, it’s thrilling to watch his career progression.
It’s being speculated that the next iteration of the Black Panther character will make its appearance in the upcoming Marvel films “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars”. If true, this new hero is expected to lead in the third installment of “Black Panther”, potentially under the direction of Ryan Coogler once more. However, several aspects remain unclear, such as how T’Challa’s son, Toussaint (named after his father), might factor into the storyline.
At present, any information about the character T’Challa should be treated with skepticism, but given the ongoing Multiverse Saga in the MCU, there might be a version of this cherished character appearing at some stage. However, it doesn’t appear that Damson Idris will don the costume if these events unfold. For now, let me simply dream about a Daniel Day-Lewis film and an Eddie Murphy biopic for him instead.
As a passionate cinephile, I’d recommend immersing yourself in the Black Panther saga by streaming the Marvel movies sequentially through a Disney+ subscription. And mark your calendars for June 27th, when you can catch Damson Idris in action at the U.S. theaters as F1 makes its debut.
