‘Zero Day’ Official Trailer Picks Up After Catastrophic U.S. Cyber Attack

The latest “Zero Day” trailer paints a bleak picture of a so-called “zero day” incident, which refers to a sudden, unexpected cyber attack taking advantage of an unidentified weakness.

In a CNN breaking news report, Wolf Blitzer reveals shocking scenes unfolding (in the video below). The nation is experiencing widespread technology failures, computers are being hacked, and there are substantial losses of life. Former U.S. President George Mullen, portrayed by Robert de Niro, reports that 3,402 people have tragically perished.

“This will happen again.”

Following the attack, De Niro’s character, Mullen, was reinstated into the inner circle of the White House, where he was tasked with leading the Zero Day Commission. His mission: to identify and apprehend the culprits behind the destructive cyber attack that had caused widespread chaos and resulted in numerous casualties.

The plot summary for “Zero Day” goes like this: “Amidst a wave of misinformation, the self-determined Mullen pursues the truth relentlessly. As the agendas of powerful figures in tech, finance, and politics clash, his pursuit leads him to face his own hidden demons and puts everything he cherishes at stake.

The teaser suggests a possibility of Mullen concealing secrets, as his character’s wife, portrayed by Joan Allen, challenges him about his mental state. Additionally, clips show concerns about eroding civil rights and amplifying conspiracy theories.

The six-episode limited series releases Feb. 20 on Netflix.

In addition to the main cast, Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, and Angela Bassett are also part of this production. Clark Gregg and Gaby Hoffmann make special appearances. Notably, Zero Day signifies Robert De Niro’s debut as a series regular.

Zero Day” is crafted and overseen by Eric Newman and Noah Oppenheim, with Lesli Linka Glatter serving as executive producer and director for every episode. Michael S. Schmidt also contributes to the writing and production, while De Niro and Jonathan Glickman serve as executive producers. The series was jointly conceived by Newman (known for “Narcos”), Oppenheim (former NBC News president), and New York Times writer Schmidt. Newman and Oppenheim are in charge of the show’s creative direction.
