Why Paul Wesley’s New Vampire Show Isn’t the Most Exciting Part of This Project!

For those who lean towards intense, emotionally driven horror stories rather than space-age science fiction tales, the actor Paul Wesley is most recognized for his prolonged role as the fanged Stefan Salvatore throughout all eight seasons of “The Vampire Diaries.” While Star Trek: Strange New Worlds might be more celebrated by the sci-fi community for its portrayal of James T. Kirk, now, Paul Wesley is aiding in the creation of an unprecedented vampire-focused production on Fox – a project that stands out from other upcoming horror TV shows in a unique way.

The storyline for the as-yet unnamed (and incapable of crossing running water) supernatural-infused comedy revolves around a vampire who yearns to become an actor. Despite being essentially ageless at 25, he encounters numerous challenges in his pursuit. (According to Deadline)

To kickstart his acting career and avoid dealing with vampire-related matters — imagine shoveling dirt instead of blood — this budding actor must additionally assist in managing the family business. This task becomes less daunting when one doesn’t have overprotective, potentially lethal parents who are also vampires.

Paul Wesley Isn’t Even What Excites Me The Most

Currently, Paul Wesley isn’t slated to act in anything; he’s primarily focusing on producing at this point. However, should a suitable role arise, there’s potential for him to step into the limelight again. Fingers crossed for a top-notch guest appearance! For now, though, his work is happening off-screen.

Nonetheless, there’s no need to worry, as the standout feature of this novel is its authorship by Victor Fresco, known for penning one of the finest horror-comedy TV shows ever: Santa Clarita Diet. In this Netflix series, Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant, Liv Hewson, and Skyler Gisondo brought to life a series of grotesquely amusing undead escapades spanning three seasons, dealing with everything from zombie-related humor to body-consuming antics.

The only drawback of the series is that it was terminated by the streaming platform following an incredibly outrageous cliffhanger in its Season 3 ending. This cancellation continues to shatter fans’ hearts, but it’s exciting to learn that Fresco will apply his uniquely absurd humor to a different type of undead creature.

Without a doubt, Fresco was not only responsible for the creation of Fresco’s other notable series, such as “Andy Richter Controls the Universe” and “Better Off Ted.” However, it is essential to acknowledge his additional creations like “Sean Saves the World,” “Life on a Stick,” and “The Trouble with Normal.” Furthermore, he also contributed to the writing of “My Name is Earl,” “Mad About You,” “ALF,” “Dinosaurs,” and many other productions.

Initially, the concept for the project was brainstormed by Paul Wesley, who served as the pilot director, along with Liz Friedlander and Aaron Kaplan from Kapital Entertainment. Although Victor Fresco is credited as the writer, it was this collective group that played a significant role in shaping the idea. Both Friedlander and Kaplan have previously worked together on shows like Vampire Diaries and more recently on Kapital’s streaming series Tell Me a Story. Kaplan has also been involved with another project, Santa Clarita Diet, further strengthening the creative connection among them.

Previously, actors from “Vampire Diaries” have returned to the supernatural genre for new shows. For instance, Ian Somerhalder, who was a key player in a love triangle on the show, played the lead (and executive producer) in Netflix’s “V Wars”, based on a series of short stories about vampires. Unfortunately, “V Wars” lasted only one season before it was cancelled. Here’s to hoping that this upcoming, as-yet-unnamed series will find success with both audiences and executives.

The fresh comedy has been picked up by Fox following negotiations with various other networks, and at this point, it’s still being fine-tuned for release. Therefore, unless everything falls into place exceptionally fast, it may not air until sometime after the 2025 TV season ends.
