Apple Music Taps Industry Veteran Mika El-Baz to Lead PR (Exclusive)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, experienced music industry figure Mika El-Baz is now part of the public relations team at Apple Music.

Based in Los Angeles, El-Baz is set to take charge of the Apple Music Public Relations team. With a wealth of experience in the music industry under her belt, she joins us from Gamma, where she spearheaded communications for the media company founded by former Apple executive Larry Jackson in 2023.

Prior to this role, El-Baz spent an impressive 17 years at RCA Records, a label under Sony Music Entertainment. Notable artists in her care included Pink, Justin Timberlake, Doja Cat, Khalid, and Britney Spears. During this time, she worked closely with Clive Davis. Before RCA, El-Baz spent six years at Interscope Records and Island Records successively.

El-Baz has collaborated extensively with Apple Music on various projects and debuts according to reports from THR. Despite its reputation for being media shy, Apple has made a significant impact in the music industry, positioning itself as one of the biggest subscription-based music streaming services globally. In competition with Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music, Apple Music offers some of the highest payments per stream among top platforms. It’s also known for its playlists created by humans and serves as a home to Zane Lowe, a well-known DJ who departed BBC Radio 1 in 2015 to join Apple Music where he has conducted numerous exclusive interviews with prominent musicians.

El-Baz’s extensive network within the industry is undoubtedly a valuable resource for Apple Music’s expansion in the West Coast region. As stated on her LinkedIn profile, El-Baz has experience as a “business partner to forward-thinking CEOs” and possesses skills in collaborating with notable talents such as artists, influencers, and their associates.

She will be stationed in Los Angeles and will directly report to Tom Neumayr at Apple Music, according to reliable sources.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Apple for comment.
