Over the last few years, the FBI series on CBS has grown to be the network’s largest franchise, and it may expand further with a new spinoff. This upcoming series might have a twist as big, or perhaps even bigger, than FBI: International, given its setting on another continent. However, the announcement of a fourth series doesn’t completely alleviate my concern about Vo’s fate on International before its winter premiere in 2025. In fact, when I interviewed actress Vinessa Vidotto, she provided more insight into Vo’s condition following the shooting incident (more details below).
CIA”.
FBI’s Next Potential Spinoff
Initially, only FBI was part of Dick Wolf’s TV universe when it debuted in 2018. Fast forward to today, where CBS airs an entire night dedicated to FBI action, it’s worth noting that FBI: Most Wanted premiered as the first spinoff in early 2020, followed by FBI: International in late 2021. Now, there’s speculation that the network could add a fourth series to this franchise in their TV schedule for the years 2025-2026.
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the upcoming series that blends the gritty action of the FBI realm with the covert operations of the CIA. Deadline reports this fascinating amalgamation is tentatively titled “FBI: CIA“. If given the green light, this series promises to take us on an exhilarating journey. The narrative would revolve around a straight-laced FBI agent and a cunning CIA operative, both assigned to a clandestine task force, tackling the ominous threat of domestic terrorism in the heart of New York City.
In the ongoing season of FBI, two new main characters could potentially debut as part of a trial run (backdoor pilot). If this trial is successful and leads to a full series, they will become regulars on the show. At present, only FBI has been renewed for the 2025-2026 television schedule among the three current shows. The future of FBI: CIA remains uncertain, and its introduction might impact or affect both Most Wanted and International, should CBS continue to air FBI on Tuesdays.
Discussing certain occurrences from shows like FBI and Most Wanted, it’s not unreasonable to imagine another spinoff focusing more on domestic terrorism. Interestingly, the upcoming winter premiere of the original series is set to be significant for Agent Scola, who remains partnerless at this point. This episode will center around the theme of terrorism.
This project is reportedly penned by Dick Wolf himself and the showrunner of FBI: Most Wanted, David Hudgins. Additionally, it includes contributions from Nicole Perlman, known for Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as former CIA officer David Chasteen. At this point, the principal characters have not been chosen yet.
Additionally, this development undeniably stirs curiosity regarding the future of Most Wanted, International, and the rest of CBS’ prime-time schedule. Yet, I find myself persistently pondering the outcome for Vo following his shooting in FBI: International’s winter finale.
What About Vo On FBI: International?
In the finale of FBI: International, viewers may recall the Fly Team appearing to secure a triumphant win against Greg Csonka. However, this victory proved premature as events unfolded too quickly for them to fully apprehend all suspects. A sudden gunfight ensued, and unfortunately for Vo, she was hit in her collarbone, an area her vest didn’t protect. The season ended on a somber note in 2024, with Vo undergoing surgery, losing a significant amount of blood, and Raines grimly informing the team that her condition appeared dire.
Because Isabella Fiore (played by Vinessa Vidotto), a significant character in the FBI: Most Wanted franchise, was written off, it’s understandable to have concerns about other characters’ fates. During my conversation with Vinessa Vidotto about FBI: International, I asked if she had any indication that her character would meet such an end. She remained tight-lipped about potential spoilers before the winter premiere, but revealed:
As I discovered only upon reading it [laughs], you never know the outcome unless you inquire first, especially when you wonder aloud, “So, what’s coming up next from all of you?” Since I didn’t inquire, thus the shock, shock!
While FBI: International has had its fair share of suspenseful endings, the latest plot twist took an unexpected turn when it put the character Vo’s life at risk, unlike any previous explosive events or cast departures.
Instead of saying Vinessa Vidotto acknowledged a “huge” credit to the hair and makeup teams on International because “they know what they’re doing” and she appeared ill after Vo was shot, it could be rephrased as: Vinessa Vidotto publicly thanked the hair and makeup crews on International for their skills since she didn’t look well after Vo was wounded. However, we don’t have information about whether she asked the showrunner or writers about Vo’s fate beforehand.
Yes, I cannot recall for certain, but given that the scenes seemed to follow each other quickly, I assume my fellow actors informed me about it. At the time, I was primarily concerned with the fact that I had been shot, so my memory of those specific details might be hazy.
The actress additionally mentioned that she thoroughly studied “what to do when you are suddenly shot,” which likely explains why she concentrated more on the incident itself rather than its aftermath. I couldn’t help but remark to Vidotto that Vo had particularly unfortunate timing as she was shot just slightly beyond the edge of her bulletproof vest collar. To this, she replied:
Directly at the base of the neck, just above the chest – it’s not an ideal location because it seems to be quite close to a significant blood vessel, possibly an artery, and also very near the arm and neck joints.
Will Vo make it through her wounds when FBI: International resumes with its winter premiere on Tuesday, January 28 at 9 p.m. ET? Viewers will need to watch to find out, but it seems that the Fly Team left us with quite a suspenseful ending in 2024, surpassing even OA’s ordeals on the original series.
It’s unclear when we’ll hear more about the FBI-CIA series, but I can’t wait to see who will be chosen as the main cast members. In the meantime, we have exciting winter premieres to look forward to on CBS, starting with FBI at 8 p.m. ET on January 28, followed by FBI: International at 9 p.m. ET, and wrapping up with FBI: Most Wanted at 10 p.m. ET.
