A temporary evacuation advisory was given for certain areas of Bel-Air because a wildfire ignited on the Sepulveda Pass, close to the I-405 Freeway. The Associated Press reported this development after the fire broke out around 11 p.m. Wednesday, as Los Angeles continues to experience multiple fires.
A fresh fire, located close to the Getty Center museum, grew larger due to strong winds as reported by the National Weather Service.
According to the Los Angeles Times report, several fire trucks were present at the location, and firefighting helicopters dropped water on it throughout the night. They also refilled their tanks at the Stone Canyon Reservoir. The fire covered an area of approximately 40 acres.
Just before 2 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) announced that the fire had ceased spreading. Authorities then lifted the evacuation advisory for certain areas of Bel-Air, including Moraga Drive, a neighborhood known for its expensive homes, according to the L.A. Times. It was believed that one of the properties given an evacuation notice was Moraga Bel Air Vineyards, which is owned by media tycoon Rupert Murdoch.
The LA Fire Department stated that no buildings were harmed and no one was hurt in the fire. The firefighters will stay at the location overnight to make sure there are no more active flames (mop-up operations). They also warned that traffic might be disrupted due to the situation.
The Getty Center “activated fire protection measures,” a representative told the L.A. Times.
