You Won’t Believe Why Parks and Rec Won’t Get a Revival

Although numerous classic sitcoms are being revived or rebooted, it appears that “Parks and Recreation” may not be joining the trend, as one of its stars, Adam Scott, has explained why we might never revisit Pawnee again. Known for his role in the popular Apple TV+ series “Severance,” Scott is also remembered for playing the endearing character Ben Wyatt on NBC’s long-running sitcom. Introduced in the show’s second season, alongside Rob Lowe’s Chris Traeger, Ben was initially brought in to reduce Pawnee’s government spending before moving on. However, after developing affection for the town and Amy Poehler’s Leslie Knope, he chose to stay and became a regular character until the series ended in 2015.

In a recent conversation on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, promoting Season 2 of Severance, Scott shared some sad news for Parks and Recreation fans about the likelihood of the series returning. He clarified that the decision ultimately lies with Mike Schur, Amy Poehler, and Greg Daniels, who co-created the show with Mike. Although Scott expressed his willingness to reprise his role as Ben, he also acknowledged that there seems to be no compelling reason for the show to come back.

“I’m not sure what else there is to add.”

Scott added, “The series finale of Parks and Recreation essentially wrapped things up for us.” The beloved sitcom concluded in 2015 following a seven-season run. In the final episode, Leslie and Ben went on a tour around Pawnee, catching up with the main characters, and fast-forwarding to show their future lives. “It leaped quite a distance into the future,” Scott explained, “so I’m not sure what else there is left to say.

Adam Scott Can’t Watch ‘Parks & Rec’

The TV show “Parks and Rec” stands alongside “The Office” and “30 Rock” as one of NBC’s cherished sitcoms of the 21st century. Even with his current role in Ben Stiller’s popular sci-fi series, “Severance”, Adam Scott expressed that fans of “Parks and Rec” remain his favorite. “The ‘Parks’ fans are exceptional,” he said. “[They’re] simply the kindest, brightest, most compassionate group of people.” Although he holds dear his former castmates, appreciates the work, and adores the fans, Adam Scott admitted that he can’t bring himself to watch “Parks and Rec”. While some actors dislike revisiting their past roles, Scott’s reason is much more heartfelt. After being presented with a clip from the series, Scott explained:

1. “Wow, it’s been ages since I last saw that!” He went on to say, “I haven’t watched that series in ages, actually, because watching it brings back sad feelings. I miss everyone involved – cast and crew alike – even though we stay connected regularly. The production was a happy period for me; five years of joy, seven years for the show.”
