CNN is undergoing some changes in its programming lineup, with several well-known personalities shifting to different positions or broadcast times. These updates were outlined by Eric Sherling, CNN’s Vice President of Programming, in a memorandum sent to CNN employees on Thursday.
The fresh lineup was revealed mere hours following when CNN’s CEO, Mark Thompson, detailed job reductions and emphasized a digital-focused approach for the esteemed news channel on cable.
Among these adjustments, Jake Tapper is shifting to the 5-7 p.m. slot, taking over an essential early prime-time news period; Kasie Hunt will be in charge of The Arena at 4 p.m.; Audie Cornish will join CNN This Morning at 6 a.m.; Rahel Solomon will host 5 Things at 5 a.m.; and Wolf Blitzer and Pamala Brown will transfer to the 10 a.m. timeslot, where they’ll present a fresh take on The Situation Room.
It remains undecided as to Jim Acosta’s future role, with various sources indicating that he may be transitioning to anchor a different late-night time slot.
According to a statement made by Thompson on Thursday, “We are simplifying and fine-tuning significant elements in the way we create our television shows from now on.
He mentioned that the adjustments we made to our morning programming a year back not only boosted efficiency but also cut expenses. Leveraging this past success and aiming for similar goals, we are now planning to revise our approach to scheduling programming in other parts as well.
Production in specific control rooms, currently based in New York and Washington D.C., will be moved to CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta.
CNN says that the new lineup will roll out over the next few weeks.
