Why Fans Think Vanna White May Have Dropped An F-Bomb During Wheel Of Fortune

It’s not unusual for game show viewers to take on the role of armchair critics, shouting out various comments (some inappropriate) at their TV screens when contestants make poor guesses or lose after being so close to winning. However, it’s rare to hear such remarks from the people who run these gameshows. Nevertheless, some fans of Wheel of Fortune have speculated that Vanna White may have sworn on live television.

It’s clear that the incident didn’t happen when Wheel of Fortune was typically being recorded in the studio. (I can only imagine what would have happened if Vanna responded to a contestant’s request with something like “Absolutely not, you can’t buy an E.”) After the victorious contestant left with a new car from the Bonus Round, Seacrest played a pre-recorded clip of their vacation to Park City which they took together. However, using the term “ski trip” suggests that they managed to ski down a slope or two, but that certainly wasn’t the case in this instance.

Ryan Seacrest playfully suggested that White seemed flustered when he made a quick wrong turn, and in the footage, it appears that White’s navigational error occurred almost instantly after he attempted to assert his confidence. Notably, White’s reaction contributes to the audience hearing more explicit language than is typically found on game shows. Here’s the conversation:

[Ryan Seacrest] “Ryan, you took a wrong turn right away!”
[White] “F–k me, Ryan! I thought I was doing good.

  • RYAN: All right, thanks for watching from this winter wonderland. See you next time on Wheel of Fortune!
  • VANNA: Bye! Oooh! [QUESTIONABLE]
  • RYAN [now laid out facefirst in the snow]: Too big of a slope for me.
  • VANNA: I’m gonna go help Ryan. Bye-bye!

Although it seems a bit far-fetched, I found myself convinced that Vanna White might have been uneasy about skiing down snowy slopes. However, it’s also plausible to believe she would always be stylishly dressed on any mountain peak, but let’s focus on the main issue.

Immediately following the broadcast, a viewer decided to check Reddit to find out if others shared their belief that Vanna might have uttered an expletive upon witnessing Seacrest’s fall. In a comment on the post, they expressed this idea as follows:

It seems she insists on using a strong term, but I’ve been trying to think it could be something else, like ‘duck.’ However, after careful consideration, it appears my initial assumption was correct.

In the Reddit post, the audio in the video is clear enough to suggest that the speaker might have said a profanity, although it was likely mumbled or uttered discreetly rather than loudly, as one might do if they accidentally swore on live television.

As a movie enthusiast, I must clarify that what appeared to be an expletive from the co-host was highly unlikely. Upon revisiting the episode with my YouTube TV subscription and enabling closed captions, I found myself validated in my conviction that she merely exclaimed “Look!” as the camera swiftly shifted to Seacrest immediately following her statement.

As a movie enthusiast, I find it highly improbable that an episode pre-recorded and edited before its broadcast would’ve left a raw F-word without any censorship. It’s hard for me to fathom a scenario where the bleeped version of such a moment would be aired. I can only speculate that if Vanna White did indeed utter an expletive, it would have been re-shot or edited out.

It’s likely that Vanna assisted Seacrest in some way, and without resorting to any harsh words, considering her known kindness and generosity towards him during his early years as the host of Wheel of Fortune. (Notably, he continued to playfully tease her around Christmas time.) Moreover, she thought it would be a fun gesture to encourage fans to come up with a nickname for him, although the outcome might have been slightly different than what she anticipated.

That Other Time Ryan Seacrest Fell Down Recently

Ryan Seacrest doesn’t necessarily need snowy weather to cause him to unexpectedly fall in front of Wheel of Fortune viewers. In the same week that he tripped while skiing, the well-respected host also slipped on the set due to an overly enthusiastic contestant.

Following the contestant enthusiastically embracing and clinging to Seacrest while jumping excitedly, he released him at an inopportune time, causing the American Idol host to momentarily lose balance and almost fall. Let’s hope he maintains his footing for the rest of this week’s episodes.
