Neve Campbell Named ‘Godmother of Horror’

Despite Scream 7 not being scheduled until February 2026, Mason Gooding, who joined the franchise as Chad Meeks-Martin in 2022’s Scream, is already expressing his admiration for his fellow cast members, including Neve Campbell, a returning star. Gooding shares the screen with Jasmin Savoy Brown, who portrays his twin sister Mindy in the series. Both characters managed to evade Ghostface’s attacks and will reappear in Scream 6, set for release in 2023.

Recently, Gooding chatted with Entertainment Tonight for the promotion of his upcoming romantic-comedy-slashers titled “Heart Eyes”. During this conversation, the topic of “Scream 7” emerged. When asked if he had communicated with his fictional sister in the series, Gooding’s face brightened at the mention of Brown. He expressed that working alongside her in the franchise felt like gaining another sister, on top of the one he already has.

Discovering Jasmine Savoy Brown in the role she played was like unexpectedly gaining a sister. We keep in touch frequently. It feels great to portray a character that has been showered with so much affection, both on set and off. This shared experience seems to create a very natural rapport between us, whether it’s during scenes or making decisions… In the end, I owe her my gratitude for being such a wonderful person and for creating such a warm atmosphere.

It’s worth noting that the production of “Scream 7” kicked off this month following several delays, such as the dismissal of lead actress Melissa Barrera and the departure of Jenna Ortega. These departures necessitated a complete overhaul of the film’s creative direction, eventually prompting original “Scream” writer Kevin Williamson to assume directorial duties after Christopher Landon stepped down. A pay dispute had previously caused Neve Campbell to be absent from “Scream 6”, but she has now been reinstated in the franchise, where she will resume her iconic role as Sidney Prescott.

Mason Gooding Calls Never Campbell the “Godmother of the Genre”

On February 7, the horror movie “Heart Eyes” is set to release, perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day. In this film, Danny Gooding and Olivia Holt star as coworkers who end up working late on the most romantic day of the year. Unfortunately, they are mistaken for a couple and pursued by the deranged Heart Eyes Killer. This slasher movie is expected to be an enjoyable watch, and Gooding expresses his appreciation for Neve Campbell’s contributions to the horror genre, not just through her work in the “Scream” series, but also for her grace and composure off-screen.

He informed ET about Campbell’s role in Scream 7. He said, “That woman over there is her mother.” He feels that she, as a pioneer in the horror genre, is the one we’re fortunate to emulate in our film Heart Eyes, which combines two distinct tones.

It’s clear that Neve consistently delivers remarkable performances, even in the most challenging and intense roles. Her ability to handle these characters with grace, care, and resilience is truly exceptional, making each of her portrayals outstanding and worthy of discussion at length.

The filming for “Scream 7” is projected to conclude by March, with a planned release date of February 27, 2026. In the interim, catch Gooding in “Heart Eyes,” opening nationwide on February 7. Keep an eye out for him as he takes on leading roles in the upcoming erotic thriller “I Want Your Sex,” set to be released later this year.
