‘Scary Movie’ Reboot Lands Summer 2026 Release

The Scary Movie franchise has set its return to the big screen.

On his Instagram post made last Friday, Marlon Wayans shared that another installment of the movie series will be released in theaters by Paramount Pictures on June 12, 2026.

They are best known for making funny movies that make fun of horror films, like the Scary Movie series which started with the first movie being released in 2000 and went on to have four sequels.

Keenen Ivory Wayans was responsible for writing and directing the original “Scary Movie” and its 2001 sequel, while Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans penned and appeared in those initial two films. The upcoming release will be distributed worldwide through Paramount, who have a first-look deal with Miramax for this purpose; it was Miramax who handled distribution for the first three installments.

Keenen Ivory Wayans wrote and directed the original “Scary Movie” and its 2001 sequel, with Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans writing and starring in those initial films. For the upcoming release, Paramount will handle global distribution through their partnership with Miramax, who were responsible for distributing the first three movies.

In the works is the next film of the franchise, penned and produced by the trio of Wayans brothers along with Rick Alvarez. As of now, there’s no word on who will direct this sixth installment, and the plot details are still under wraps.

In October, Marlon Wayans shared his enthusiasm for an upcoming project on social media. He wrote then, “After almost 20 years, the Wayans brothers are ready at last to give fans what they’ve been requesting… a comeback to the Scary Movie series!

Featuring Anna Faris and Regina Hall, the initial “Scary Movie” premiered in July 2000, earning $42 million during its domestic box office run. The movie’s title held the record for the largest opening weekend for an R-rated horror film and a film directed by a Black director at that time.

Following their triumph with “Scary Movie”, the trio of Wayans brothers then teamed up to create “White Chicks” (2004) and “Little Man” (2006), after which they pursued individual endeavors.
