- The Returning Cast Members
The Night Agent is back for a second round, but it feels more like a fresh series altogether. Despite Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) and Rose (Luciane Buchanan) reprising their roles, most other cast members are new faces. However, rest assured that the narrative continues to revolve around Peter’s life and career, now following his latest path.
It’s evident that among the fresh faces, there are quite a few who seem recognizable. Although they may not be immediately identifiable by their names, their visages are likely to spark memories of previous roles in various productions.
The Most Recognizable New Cast Members
Brittany Snow as Alice
Initially appearing is Brittany Snow, portraying Alice, Peter’s initial guide during his Night Action apprenticeship. She was his mentor and training companion, introducing him to the basics and pushing him through rigorous training sessions. Since then, they have been working side by side. The storyline commences with them embarking on their first joint mission.
As a devoted admirer, I’d express it like this: I recognize Snow primarily from her captivating portrayal of Chloe Beale in the Pitch Perfect series. In these movies, she leads the Bellas, an awe-inspiring a cappella group. Prior to her cinematic success, she made her mark on the small screen through the soap opera Guiding Light. Her film career took off with roles in movies such as John Tucker Must Die, Hairspray, and Prom Night. Over time, she graced our screens in shows like Harry’s Law and Almost Family. In 2023, Snow stepped behind the camera for her directorial debut with the film Parachute, which premiered at the renowned SXSW festival. On a more personal note, Snow is an advocate for combating bullying and co-founded the Love is Louder movement in collaboration with the Jed Foundation.
Amanda Warren as Catherine Weaver
Amanda Warren is portrayed as Catherine Weaver, who serves as the supervisor, dispatcher, and de facto boss of Peter and Alice in the series. She issues assignments and is their point of contact when they require assistance. However, Catherine isn’t shy about taking charge during critical situations and even gets involved in the field work herself if necessary.
Warren played the role of Lucy Warburton, the mayor of Mapleton, in the HBO drama “The Leftovers”, trying to manage the chaos within her town. She also made an appearance as Betty on the Apple TV+ series “Dickinson”. Besides these notable roles, Warren has had guest appearances in numerous other shows such as the reboot of “Gossip Girl”, “The Good Wife”, and “Law & Order”, and she was featured in the film “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”.
Louis Herthum as Jacob Monroe
Actor Louis Herthum portrays Jacob Monroe, a shrouded, influential, and affluent businessman who lies at the heart of the case being probed by Peter. If he seems acquainted, it’s because viewers have encountered Herthum in numerous productions before: he was a significant presence in the series Westworld, frequently appearing without clothing, as the android host Peter Abarnathy. In that show, spectators will remember, his character was the father of the android host Dolores Abernathy, played by Evan Rachel Wood. Herthum also had a recurring role on the series Murder, She Wrote.
Teddy Sears as Warren
Initially, Peter is tracking a character named Warren, portrayed by Teddy Sears. This individual has been clandestinely peddling information to an unidentified party, but both Peter and Alice are struggling to decipher what he’s selling and to whom. In the first season of ‘American Horror Story’, Sears appeared as Patrick, and he also starred as Dr. Austin Langham in ‘Masters of Sex’. Notably, he played the supervillain Hunter Zolomon/Zoom in the series ‘The Flash’.
Other Familiar Faces From This Season
Arienne Mandi as Noor
Arienne Mandi portrays Noor, a junior assistant for the Iranian delegation at the United Nations in New York. However, she harbors concealed truths that propel her into the heart of this season’s narrative. Previously, Mandi starred in the series The L Word: Generation Q, a follow-up to The L Word. Additionally, she has been featured on shows such as Hawaii Five-O, NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Agent X, and NCIS: Los Angeles.
Berton Colon as Solomon
Berto Colon is recognized as Solomon, a veteran Marine who has been functioning as a facilitator, or essentially, a protective figure, for a prominent and affluent businessman. The versatile actor has appeared in numerous guest roles across various productions. He gained significant fame as Lorenzo Tejada in Power Book II: Ghost and Cesar in Orange is the New Black. Lately, Colon played a minor part as Castillo in The Penguin.
Michael Malarkey as Markus
If Michael Malarkey seems recognizable to you, it’s not a coincidence. He portrays the chilling character Markus, who turns out to be quite menacing. However, fans might recognize Malarkey better as Enzo St. John from The Vampire Diaries. Some other shows where he has made appearances include Jean-Claude Van Johnson, The Oath, Westworld, and Big Sky.
Keon Alexander as Javad
Ultimately, actor Keon Alexander assumes the multifaceted character of a security chief, Javad, for an Iranian diplomat. At first glance, he seems gentle and compassionate, but there’s a hint of menace lurking in his gaze when it comes to accomplishing his mission. Most likely, viewers will remember Alexander from his role as Marco Inaros on The Expanse. He has also acted as Rami Said in Tyrant and Dominick Baptiste in Impulse.
The Returning Cast Members
Absolutely, among the fresh faces in season two, we have two beloved characters making their comeback: Gabriel Basso portrays Peter Sutherland, while Luciane Buchanan takes on the role of Rose Larkin.
Initially, Basso made his mark in acting during his childhood, featuring in the Showtime series “The Big C” from 2010 to 2013. He also gained recognition for playing a lead role in the 2011 sci-fi film “Super 8”. However, his recent significant roles extend beyond “The Night Agent”, as he portrayed JD Vance in the biographical drama “Hillbilly Elegy”, directed by Ron Howard and adapted from Vance’s memoir. Upcoming, Basso is set to star in an unnamed Kathryn Bigelow film, which is currently undergoing post-production.
Before taking on her current role in “The Night Agent”, Buchanan had previously been seen in the New Zealand comedy-drama “Filthy Rich” and the fantasy adventure series “The New Legends of Monkey”. Notably, “The Night Agent” marks her first significant role in North America. Originating from Auckland, she has also made appearances in “Sweet Tooth”, “Mr. Corman”, and “The Panthers”. Up next for Buchanan is a starring role as Ka’ahumanu in the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Chief of War”, alongside Jason Momoa.
In addition to the main characters from season one, there are some recurring actors in season two such as Fola Evans-Akingbola portraying Secret Service agent Chelsea Arrington, and Kari Matchett as President Michelle Travers. Notably, Evans-Akingbola has made appearances in popular shows like “Game of Thrones”, “Black Mirror” (specifically the episode titled “Striking Vipers”), “Ten Percent”, and the Freeform series “Siren”.
Piazza has been a leading figure in numerous action dramas, movies, and television shows since the late ’90s. Notable appearances include “Five Days to Midnight”, “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”, and the TNT series “Heartland”. She also made an appearance in an episode of the series “Fargo” in 2023.
