Sterling K. Brown Reveals Shocking Reason He Turned Down Villain Role in ‘The Boys’!

The popular series “The Boys” on Prime Video boasts an impressive ensemble, featuring stars like Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Jensen Ackles, Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and many others. Interestingly, another well-known A-lister, Sterling K. Brown, was almost part of the cast. Brown is renowned for his roles in acclaimed productions such as “This Is Us”, “American Crime Story”, “Black Panther”, and “American Fiction”. In fact, his performance in “American Fiction” earned him a nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 2024 Oscars.

As I sat down for an exciting chat with Variety to drum up buzz for my forthcoming political thriller series, “Paradise,” I shared a fascinating tidbit about a missed opportunity in the superhero realm that nearly became part of my illustrious acting journey. Reflecting on the offer, I mused, “The part was intriguingly wicked, so it held quite an allure.” Alas, I didn’t disclose which villainous character from the renowned superhero series was up for grabs, but I did share some intriguing hints about who I might have portrayed. Contrary to speculation, I wasn’t being considered for one of the show’s iconic, ongoing characters. Instead, I was presented with a chance to don the cloak of villainy for a limited-run story arc.

Brown expressed strong interest in the project, but his existing obligations and the busy filming schedule of “The Boys” left him no choice but to decline. He added, “A full-season arc, set in Toronto — it’s challenging.” To clarify, I’m discussing luxurious predicaments here! However, being fortunate enough to have certain opportunities lined up, I can afford to be pickier about my roles.” With “The Boys” known for its impressive guest appearances, such as Tilda Swinton, Will Ferrell, Seth Rogen, and Charlize Theron, there’s a possibility that Sterling K. Brown might make a brief appearance in the show’s upcoming fifth and final season.

‘The Boys’ Season 5 Has Begun Shooting

Following four intense (yet occasionally contentious) seasons, Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys is planning to conclude its story in Season 5. The final season will mark the end of Billy Butcher’s (Urban) and Homelander’s (Starr) intense rivalry. The finale of Season 4 saw Butcher succumb to his darkest thoughts, developing dangerous powers himself, while the rest of the main team were apprehended by Vought as they attempted to escape the country following the death of Vice-President (and secret Supe) Victoria Newman.

Last November on Instagram, the showrunner of “The Boys”, Eric Kripke, announced that filming for the final season had started. He posted a photo of the script cover for the Season 5 premiere titled “Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite,” written by Paul Grellong and directed by Phil Sgriccia. It is anticipated that Season 5 will consist of eight episodes, similar to the previous four seasons, though this hasn’t been verified by Amazon Prime Video or Eric Kripke themselves yet. No specific release date for Season 5 has been set, but since production is underway, fans are hoping that the final season will debut on Amazon Prime Video sometime in 2026.
