According to Friday’s returns, the movie “Flight Risk,” directed by Mel Gibson, is projected to open at between $11 million and $12 million at the domestic box office. If these predictions are accurate, the action-thriller film will exceed expectations, possibly even surpassing them.
This is the initial movie that Gibson, who Trump designated as an ambassador to Hollywood, has directed since 2016, when he was at the helm of “Hacksaw Ridge”.
In this version, I’ve aimed to make the sentence more conversational and easier to read while maintaining the original meaning.
Hailing from Lionsgate, the movie “Flight Risk” features Mark Wahlberg in the role of a pilot, accompanied by Michelle Dockery as an Air Marshal. Their journey involves transporting a mob-linked witness, portrayed by Topher Grace, to his trial across the treacherous Alaskan wilderness. Throughout this perilous voyage, the air becomes charged with tension and trust becomes a precious commodity, as it becomes evident that not everyone aboard the plane is who they claim to be – even the pilot himself.
The low-budget film hasn’t been well received by critics, and audiences have given it a mediocre grade of ‘C’.
According to Frank Scheck’s assessment, while it does offer some excitement, the movie is compared to Spirit Airlines in terms of airborne thrillers. This is due to its awkward dialogue, inconsistent acting, and below-par special effects.
In their second and sixth weekends respectively, Sony and TriStar’s comedy “One of Them Days” starring a female lead and Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” are closely competing for the second spot, each projected to earn around $7 million to $8 million. Meanwhile, Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is maintaining its position in its sixth weekend, anticipated to bring in approximately $5.1 million to secure fourth place.
A tight competition is unfolding between Stephen Soderbergh’s latest horror-thriller, titled ‘Presence’, and the upcoming animated Disney film ‘Moana 2’. Both are neck and neck in contention for the fifth position, each projected to earn roughly $3 million.
Critics have lauded Soderbergh’s latest movie, but audiences have only given it a C+ rating. It’s common for horror movies to get a C grade from viewers.
Set within a single location, the movie “Presence” features actress Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, and debutant Callina Liang. This suspenseful haunted house tale centers around a family seemingly on the verge of disintegration.
Numbers will be updated Sunday morning, along with a full top 10 and specialty box office report.
