In his latest role as the deceptive hitman Daryl Booth in “Flight Risk,” Mark Wahlberg fully threw himself into the part, opting to baldly shave his head instead of wearing a wig. This drastic change might have surprised both his fans and family. Interestingly, Wahlberg’s wife, Rhea Durham, found his new look particularly amusing when he shared it with her. As Wahlberg explained in an interview with People magazine, this unusual hairdo was the source of much laughter for Mrs. Durham.
Instead of using a bald cap, I opted to shave only the central part and leave the ‘horseshoe’ pattern around the sides. We simply trimmed it down. Every day, they would closely shave the top layer of my head, which was necessary since there was no sign of stubble or anything else. Consequently, I concealed it under a hat. However, the most precious moment was witnessing my wife’s reaction when I removed my hat after getting a haircut for work that day.
It’s hard not to question if Wahlberg’s commitment to his role in Flight Risk was really worth it, considering he had to grow back his hair, which can’t be an easy feat for a 53-year-old actor. Moreover, most critics have been mercilessly panning the action thriller with some of the harshest reviews you could imagine.
Bald Mark Wahlberg‘s ‘Flight Risk’ Eyes Top Spot at Weekend Box Office
It’s clear that “Flight Risk” won’t be confused with one of Mark Wahlberg‘s most enjoyable movies or acting roles. Critics have been particularly unkind, giving the film a low score of 21% on the Tomatometer based on 70 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite this, Wahlberg thinks his kids might enjoy the movie, perhaps finding it amusing after seeing him sport a bald look. In the same interview, Wahlberg added that he expects his children to find the film entertaining due to his new hairless appearance.
They’re going to enjoy it, especially my sons. They adored the haircut we got for them. It brought a lot of smiles to their faces. However, I’m not fond of the makeup chair. To be honest, I dislike touch-ups and all the additional work that comes with it. Instead, I find the preparations leading up to it more appealing.
Once we begin work, I dislike being constantly scrutinized and questioned. I prefer to simply focus on my tasks. To be honest, it’s not enjoyable for me. Ideally, I can fully immerse myself in the character. Wearing a wig or fake mustache always makes me feel somewhat absurd.
Currently showing in cinemas is the movie titled “Flight Risk”. If you’re a fan of action-packed thrillers and are intrigued, it might be worth your while to read MovieWeb’s review of “Flight Risk” (earning 1.5/5 stars), which asserts that Mel Gibson’s directorial comeback fails to get off the ground.
Contrary to the harsh criticisms leveled at the film starring Mark Wahlberg, it seems that the audience has shown a bit more leniency than the critics, as evidenced by the 63% Popcornmeter rating and “C” CinemaScore for the movie titled “Flight Risk.” Surprisingly, this collaboration between Wahlberg and Gibson might end up topping the weekend box office with an estimated domestic earnings of around $11 million to $12 million (according to Deadline), while “Mufasa: The Lion King” will likely come in second place. As a movie enthusiast, I’m eager to see how this unfolds!
