Bluey Shocks TV World: The Top Streamed Show of 2024 Revealed!

2024 saw an abundance of fantastic shows, but it was the Australian children’s favorite, Bluey, that claimed the number one spot on the Nielsen list as the most-watched series of the previous year. Produced by Joe Brumm, this captivating animated show chronicles the adventures of Blue Heeler puppy, Blue, and her family: Bandit, Chilli, and Bingo. Debuting in 2018, it has now completed three seasons with a total of 154 episodes.

According to Per Nielsen, a staggering 12 trillion minutes of content were streamed in the year 2024. Among these, “Bluey” emerged as the most popular series, with viewers collectively watching an impressive 55.6 billion minutes of this canine show on Disney+. Unsurprisingly, a significant portion of those viewership minutes belonged to children aged between 2 and 11. The runner-up in this race wasn’t even remotely close; “Grey’s Anatomy” managed to garner a total of 47.85 billion minutes streamed on Hulu and Netflix.

In other popular rankings (shown previously), the animated series “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers” placed third and fourth, accumulating 42.44 and 36.80 billion minutes watched respectively. The television show “NCIS” secured the fifth position with a total of 35.91 billion minutes streamed. “Young Sheldon” and its predecessor “The Big Bang Theory” took the sixth and seventh spots, tallying 32.08 and 29.12 billion minutes each. The number eight spot went to “Law & Order: SVU” with 28.72 billion minutes, followed closely by “Criminal Minds” at number nine with 28.40 billion minutes. Lastly, “SpongeBob SquarePants” ended the list with a total of 27.87 billion minutes streamed.

A ‘Bluey’ Movie is Coming to Theaters in 2027

Given the tremendous popularity of Bluey in the U.S., it’s not unexpected that creators Mike and their team are considering a 2027 cinematic release for a Bluey movie. As of now, specific storyline details remain confidential, but the project was disclosed late last year as being underway, with Mike taking a break from the series to pen and direct the film. Rest assured, the Bluey TV show will carry on uninterrupted on Disney+, ensuring more exciting escapades ahead!

“For quite some time, I’ve felt that Bluey was worthy of a grand cinematic adventure,” Brumm expressed when the project was first unveiled, further emphasizing his desire for it to be an immersive experience for families to cherish together. Considering Bluey racked up over 55 billion minutes of streaming in 2024, there’s no denying that this will indeed be a memorable event, as parents and kids alike are sure to throng the theaters eager to witness their beloved canine friend on the big screen. However, it’s always possible that doubts may linger about the success of a Bluey movie, given it could simply serve as background entertainment for families at home. But will they put forth the effort to watch it in a bustling theater filled with hundreds of other children? Time will tell when we reach 2027.

Regardless of whether the movie meets its hype or not, the TV show “Bluey” is a hit Australian export that hasn’t been this popular in the U.S. for a while. If you haven’t caught up with it yet, don’t miss out! You can stream “Bluey” on Disney+ right now.
