Actor Shahid Kapoor, known for his charm, is actively promoting his upcoming movie titled Deva. In the course of these promotional activities, he spoke about his past project Kabir Singh and fielded questions regarding his wife Mira Rajput‘s involvement in script selection. With a touch of humor, he playfully stated that she is “too costly” for him to engage her services.
When inquired about whether Shahid Kapoor seeks advice from his wife Mira Rajput prior to signing a movie or requests her to review the script, Shahid Kapoor jokingly stated that she is “too costly” for him to afford. In reality, he clarified that the choice of a film should be a private matter, and the actor himself should take full responsibility for his decisions.
Shahid made it clear that although he consults with others on his decisions and takes their opinions into account, ultimately, the final say belongs to him. He explained that this endeavor is about his own development and professional advancement, so he bears sole responsibility for its outcome.
In response to questions about the diverse responses towards his movie “Kabir Singh” from 2019, which drew both admiration for his acting and criticism for promoting harmful masculinity ideals, Shahid Kapoor expressed his views on the matter.
Deva the actor showed immense joy about the movie, stating, “I’m incredibly proud of this film. I feel a deep sense of pride since we accomplished something that was… for me, getting to portray a character with complications, or one with ambiguous or dark hues, or a character with unsettling characteristics as the main role, is an actual dream come true.
Kapoor mentioned that during his upbringing, the protagonists in movies were usually presented as unquestionably ‘virtuous’ figures. However, as a performer, he found this notion puzzling upon observing striking acting feats like those in Taxi Driver (1976) by Robert De Niro and Scarface (1983) by Al Pacino.
He openly stated that he isn’t hesitant to show truth on-screen, and he views his character portrayals separately from who he is as a person. Shahid clarified that it’s not necessary for him to personally like the characters he plays—his aim is to comprehend them deeply.
He feels that viewers themselves should determine whether to appreciate or criticize a character, and if they end up disliking one he portrays, it suggests he has effectively persuaded them – something he finds intriguing from an acting perspective.
