Chris Evans Responds To Rumors Of Steve Rogers’ Return In Avengers: Doomsday, And It’s Giving Me Andrew Garfield Vibes

From my perspective as a die-hard fan, the last time I saw Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was at the end of “Avengers: Endgame,” where an older Steve was passing on the Captain America shield and mantle to Sam Wilson. Even though Sam will be leading the charge for “Captain America: Brave New World” – one of the upcoming Marvel movies, there’s no official word yet about Chris Evans reprising his role. However, unofficial reports suggest that he might return as Steve in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Recently, Evans has spoken out regarding this claim, and his response is giving me a hint of Andrew Garfield-like ambiguity.

In a profile for Esquire focusing on Anthony Mackie (also known as the MCU’s Sam Wilson) before the launch of “Captain America 4”, Evans was questioned about speculations regarding his possible comeback. Here’s his response:

Indeed, you’re mistaken, my friend. It seems this recurring situation is as predictable as the sunrise, happening roughly every few years, a trend that began post-Endgame. Frankly, I’ve grown weary of addressing it. To be honest, I’m blissfully enjoying my retirement from such discussions!

Initially, Chris Evans isn’t technically retired from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since he appeared as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine last year. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it with a Disney+ subscription. However, let me clarify that this is not the main topic. What I want to say is that Evans isn’t far off from speculation about his potential return to the MCU, as there have been whispers about this in the past. For instance, rumors circulated in 2021 suggesting he was being prepared for multiple unspecified Marvel projects.

More to come…
