After a wait of seven years, Netflix has at last unveiled the release date and a sneak peek at the introductory sequence for their animated adaptation of the Devil May Cry series. The vibrant and action-packed opening sequence, accompanied by “Rollin” by Limp Bizkit, may seem an unusual choice but perfectly suits Dante and the Devil May Cry universe. Filled with chaos (and a fair share of pizza), this introductory sequence was also accompanied by the announcement that the series will debut on Netflix starting April 3.
The new series intro came after a September trailer from Netflix showcasing the animation style, which reflects the action style of Devil Hunter Dante from video games. Remarkably, the fast-animated scenes accurately convey Dante’s unique gameplay. As a result, fans have high expectations that this adaptation will preserve the original tone and enthusiasm of the video games.
Adi Shankar is responsible for overseeing the production and creative direction of “Devil May Cry,” having also held these roles on the critically-praised Netflix animated series, “Castlevania” and its follow-up, “Castlevania: Nocturne.” With a knack for transforming thrilling video game stories into live action, “Devil May Cry” seems poised to maintain the high standard of quality.
The Opening of ‘Devil May Cry’ is Filled With Hidden Details
In the opening sequence of the upcoming animated show based on the game series, there are delightful Easter eggs for keen-eyed fans to discover. Although Capcom’s Devil May Cry initially began as a spin-off from the Resident Evil universe, it has since evolved into an independent entity with its own distinctive flavor. The series is known for its humorous undertones that contrast beautifully with its dark themes and explosive action sequences. Fleeting glimpses in the credits, such as the display of Dante’s weapons, Yamato and Agni & Rudra, offer hints about the broader storyline of the series, leaving some fans to ponder the exact timeline of the series.
The initial scene displays the Fabled Charm from the Devil May Cry video game franchise, an artifact crucial in the third installment of the sequence. This clue implies that the narrative unfolds subsequent to the first game’s conclusion. However, it remains unclear whether the show will offer a fresh perspective on the games’ storyline; only time will tell. As of now, we must patiently anticipate its release on April 3, when it premieres on Netflix.
If the Devil May Cry series performs well in Netflix’s expanding library of outstanding animated productions, it might bring a new powerhouse franchise to Netflix. With five games already released and potentially more coming, there seems to be an abundance of content for Adi Shankar to adapt. The initial season of eight episodes could mark the beginning of a promising future for the Devil Hunter on Netflix.
