By now, we’ve already passed a full month into the 2025 TV lineup, but as of yet, Season 5 of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” hasn’t been given a premiere date on Peacock. This upcoming season will mark its debut as a streaming original instead of airing after “Law & Order: SVU” on Thursday evenings. However, the latest NBC Thursday had me yearning for Christopher Meloni’s spinoff once more, and it was a promo hinting at the next mini crossover in the “Law & Order” universe that stirred up those feelings. Tony Goldwyn is set to appear alongside Mariska Hargitay within a couple of weeks.
As a devoted cinephile, I must share my excitement about the sneak peek that followed the recent episode of SVU. It’s currently streaming on Peacock, for those who have subscribed. This teaser hinted at some intriguing details about Benson’s past, but overall, it appeared like more of the same from the show that delves into “sexually-based offenses” that are deemed “especially heinous.” However, things took an unexpected turn when a fleeting shot of Tony Goldwyn, a familiar face from the Law & Order series, as DA Nick Baxter, was seen in a car, seemingly conversing with Peter Scanavino’s ADA Carisi and Captain Benson herself. Keep your eyes peeled!
This episode of SVU likely won’t include any extra references to Organized Crime, which is just another way of saying there won’t be any references to it. However, with two out of three current Law & Order shows featuring shared characters, it brings back memories of when there were as many as three shows from the NBC lineup to draw from, and let’s not forget that Organized Crime boasts some of the most intriguing characters in Dick Wolf’s TV universe centered around L&O.
Additionally, fresh faces are joining our ranks who seem like exciting additions to the mix. For instance, Jason Patrick from “Wayward Pines” will take on a new detective role, while an alum of “Criminal Minds” will portray a character with connections to Stabler’s past. I’m unsure about how John Shiban’s departure as showrunner might affect the release schedule for Season 5, but I’m hoping it debuts prior to the season finales of both “Law & Order” and particularly “SVU”, which are typically aired in May.
Absolutely, I’m part of the crowd who delight in seeing Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay share the screen again after their long-running partnership on SVU. Contrary to some, I didn’t find the Benson/Stabler kiss non-event particularly upsetting. Instead, I find their on-screen chemistry captivating, a rarity among TV duos given their rich history. Be it their camaraderie at its best or Stabler reminding me of his ‘The Letter’ tactics, they never fail to keep things interesting!
Is there any possibility of an OC character appearing in one of NBC’s ongoing Law & Order series during the 2024-2025 television season? I sure hope so! Interestingly, it seems more plausible to me that characters from SVU might appear on Organized Crime. This could just be my imagination running wild, but who do you think would have the most intriguing crossover moments between Peacock and NBC?
At present, enthusiasts can continue to catch two episodes of Law & Order every Thursday night on NBC, and they can rewatch the initial four seasons of Organized Crime on Peacock. In the upcoming new episode airing on February 13, Tony Goldwyn appears as Nick Baxter in an episode of SVU.
