Unveiling Marvel’s First Family: Every Character in the Fantastic Four Trailer!

At last, the trailer for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” has been unveiled, following close to a year since Marvel Studios disclosed the film’s main cast. This movie signifies the beginning of Phase 6 within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and represents the long-anticipated introduction of Marvel’s original family into their enduring series. The film appears to hint at something quite distinct, as it will be set in an alternate reality rather than adhering to the established timeline, offering a glimpse of a retro-futuristic 1960s world.

The trailer served as a tantalizing preview, offering glimpses of all the characters within The Fantastic Four. John Malkovich made an appearance, though his role remains shrouded in mystery; we’ve been brainstorming possible identities for him. Additionally, the trailer hinted at the film’s primary antagonist and a popular sidekick that fans have long anticipated seeing in live-action form. Here, you will find all Marvel characters featured in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic

Played by Pedro Pascal

The main character of the Fantastic Four, known as Mr. Fantastic (Reed Richards), will be portrayed by Pedro Pascal, who gained fame from ‘The Mandalorian’. Reed is married to Sue Storm and is the brother-in-law to her younger sibling, Johnny Storm. Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, is Reed’s closest friend. Known for his exceptional intelligence across the Marvel Universe, it’s expected that Reed Richards’ entry into the MCU will create a significant impact. One of Reed’s distinctive traits is his ability to elongate his body remarkably, although he’s the only one from the four not to demonstrate their powers in the trailer.

In another twist, it’s worth noting that Victor Von Doom, who was once Reed’s college roommate, is known as the arch-nemesis of the Fantastic Four. Although Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday” is confirmed, his role in “Fantastic Four: First Steps” remains uncertain. A frame from the trailer shows Mr. Fantastic scribbling on a chalkboard with writing that seems to hint at the multiverse. This could indicate that Reed Richards may be guiding his family into the Marvel Cinematic Universe to confront the potential danger of Doctor Doom encroaching upon the MCU’s inviolable timeline.

Susan Storm / The Invisible Woman

Played by Vanessa Kirby

Frequently considered the core and strongest member of the Fantastic Four, Susan “Sue” Storm, famously known as Invisible Woman, is often in the spotlight. She’s portrayed by Vanessa Kirby, who gained fame for her role as Princess Margaret in Netflix’s initial two seasons of The Crown, and has recently become a key character in the Mission: Impossible franchise. Sue is married to Mr. Fantastic, the sister of the Human Torch, and a close companion to The Thing. Her abilities encompass creating force fields and rendering herself and others invisible.

The Invisible Woman is prominently featured in the film, as suggested by the trailer, with Vanessa Kirby delivering most of the lines. This highlights the movie’s main theme, family, and emphasizes the Fantastic Four as a whole concept. The quick glimpses of Sue’s abilities such as invisibility and force fields appear unique compared to previous on-screen portrayals of the character. There is potential for the Invisible Woman to become the standout character in this movie.

Johnny Storm / The Human Torch

Played by Joseph Quinn

In the movie, we have Johnny Storm, often referred to as The Human Torch. This character is well-known for his fiery temperament among the Fantastic Four members. On screen, he’s portrayed by Joseph Quinn, who gained significant recognition as Eddie Munson in Stranger Things Season 4. However, it was a standout year for him in 2024, with appearances in popular films such as A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator II. This superhero has the unique ability to encase his body in fire and fly, usually prompted by his iconic phrase, “Flame on!

In comic books, Sue Storm’s younger sibling, Johnny Storm (a.k.a. The Human Torch), frequently exhibits a playful rivalry with his older brother, The Thing. Despite their jabs at each other, they genuinely value their bond. When he debuted in Marvel Comics, Johnny was just a teenager, but the movies portray him as a young adult. In the comics, Johnny enjoys a strong friendship with Spider-Man, and fans eagerly anticipate seeing Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker interact on screen together.

Ben Grimm / The Thing

Played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach

In the esteemed Fantastic Four squad, it’s none other than Ben Grimm, affectionately known as “The Ever-Loving Blue-Eyed Thing,” who garners the most admiration. Ebon Moss-Bachrach, a two-time Primetime Emmy winner for his performance as Richie in “The Bear,” will portray this iconic character. Moss-Bachrach also has experience within the Marvel universe, having played Micro in “The Punisher.” Unlike his teammates, The Thing’s body is encased in rocks, and he can’t switch off his powers. He boasts incredible strength and has even stood toe-to-toe with the Hulk on occasion.

Unlike earlier movie portrayals where The Thing’s voice was altered for a grave tone, the creators of Fantastic Four: First Steps opted to preserve Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s natural voice for his character. This choice not only sets The Thing apart from previous on-screen versions but also allows Moss-Bachrach’s performance to shine more. It also reflects the idea that beneath his stony exterior, Ben Grimm remains the same person post-transformation. With his comic-accurate rock eye brows reminiscent of Jack Kirby’s drawings, fans eagerly anticipate hearing The Thing say, “It’s clobberin time!

H.E.R.B.I.E.

At long last, a cherished character from the Fantastic Four’s extended family will grace the big screen for the first time: none other than H.E.R.B.I.E. Originally created for the animated series “The New Fantastic Four,” he stepped in for Johnny Storm/The Human Torch following plans for a solo film that never materialized, contrary to popular belief that they were concerned children would mimic fire-starting behavior. In the comics, H.E.R.B.I.E has found his place as Reed Richards and Sue Storm’s robotic helper, managing household chores, and occasionally looking after their kids, Franklin and Valeria.

In a thrilling turn of events, I’m making my long-awaited cinematic debut in the 2019 film, Fantastic Four: First Steps, after brief teases and concept art in earlier films. There’s been buzz about Natasha Lyonne lending her voice to me, while some fans have hoped for Griffin Newman to voice this character instead. The trailer seems to suggest that I might communicate through a series of noises reminiscent of R2-D2 or BB-8 from Star Wars.

Galactus

Played by Ralph Ineson

The primary danger presented in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” comes from none other than Galactus, a being who consumes entire worlds to sustain himself. Originally brought to life by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Galactus made his debut in Fantastic Four #48, published in March 1966 as part of “The Galactus Trilogy,” a storyline often hailed as one of the best in comic book history. In essence, Galactus is an interstellar force that feeds on planets to stay alive. Although he might seem like a threat worthy of the Avengers upon first glance, it underscores the importance and strength of the Fantastic Four, as they are capable of confronting such a challenge together. For the average Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) adversary, dealing with the Fantastic Four is just another ordinary Wednesday.

In the upcoming film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” set to hit cinemas on July 25, 2025, Galactus will be portrayed by Ralph Ineson, famous for his roles in “The Witch,” “The Green Knight,” and most recently “Nosferatu.” Previously, Galactus was depicted as a cloud in the movie “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.” However, this new version will show Galactus in all his grandeur, complete with his iconic big, pointed helmet. Interestingly, while the film suggests Galactus’s presence, it seems to be keeping The Silver Surfer under wraps for now. Fans are eagerly anticipating the second trailer, as they know that “Wolf Man” star Julia Garner will appear in the movie as a unique take on The Silver Surfer’s companion Shalla-Bal.
