Approximately two years following Ke Huy Quan’s Oscar win for his supporting performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once“, he returns to the silver screen, this time stepping into his debut as a lead actor.
In the movie “Love Hurts,” produced by Universal, Quan plays Marvin Gable, a prosperous real estate agent whose former life as a ruthless assassin resurfaces to trouble him. He had previously declined several offers for this romantic action-comedy, confessing at its Los Angeles premiere on Monday that he initially didn’t envision himself in the role of Marvin Gable because he was the leading man and the main action star. As a younger individual, he aspired to be like him, but due to missed opportunities in the past, he thought he wasn’t suitable for it.
A chat with Steven Spielberg, who collaborated with him on “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” in 1984, inspired him to seize the opportunity and appear at the top of the cast list for the very first time.
On my first day on set, all I could think about was ensuring everyone felt valued and included, just like the top-tier actors I’ve admired who always make a positive impact on their teams. After observing how Harrison Ford, Tom Hiddleston, and others handle their roles, I knew the importance of fostering a warm, family-like atmosphere where every contribution matters equally. So, I made it a priority to treat everyone with kindness and respect, recognizing that each role, no matter how small or large, is crucial to our collective success.
In his own words, he expressed, “I discovered an insightful lesson while collaborating with Jamie Lee Curtis on Everything Everywhere All At Once; Whenever our work week turned particularly challenging and demanding, she would surprise everyone with a delightful treat. She’d splurge on a hot dog or bagel truck since we were in Canada, but I’d hire a pizza truck as well because I wanted to express my gratitude for their hard work. This selfless act taught me the importance of appreciation.

The opening event additionally showcased a reunion of The Goonies cast on the red carpet, with Quan being accompanied by Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, and Corey Feldman. Astin, who plays a minor part in the latest production, expressed his admiration for watching Quan’s success soar, four decades after The Goonies.
Astin remarked that Ke’s career journey continues unabated. He feels that the entire Oscar season was an intensely emotional rollercoaster; now, it seems he has found his perfect place. In essence, this is where he belongs, considering the past 25 years.
Love Hurts hits theaters on Friday.
