The Fantastic Four Trailer Launch Event Proves Why Everyone Loves Pedro Pascal

The selection process for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” generated much debate and speculation prior to any official announcements. Initially, there were whispers that Matt Smith and Adam Driver might be candidates for the role of Reed Richards. If true, it would have been a questionable decision regarding Driver, but eventually, Pedro Pascal emerged as the preferred pick. The trailer launch fan event confirmed why he was an ideal fit for Mr. Fantastic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the start.

To create excitement for the upcoming film, Marvel organized an exclusive fan gathering at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The principal cast, featuring Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and standout star Pascal, graced the stage. However, it was Pascal who captured the attention of the audience with his extended interactions with the enthusiastic fans. He made a point to greet each and every one of them while many others were more formally attired. It’s this laid-back demeanor that has won him a massive fan base, and he didn’t disappoint in this regard. Notably, Pascal seemed to be dressed casually in pajamas during the event.

Initially, Roché posed a query to the entire acting troupe, and when she put forth a second one specifically to Pascal, he retorted, “I believed I had previously addressed a question.” Watching Pascal enjoy himself during the pre-show is nearly as captivating as viewing the preview of “The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps” itself.

Curiously, we don’t see Reed’s powers in the Fantastic Four trailer

Choosing Pedro Pascal for the role of Reed Richards is an inspired decision, given his immense popularity following his performances in “The Mandalorian” and “The Last of Us.” Given that Reed Richards occasionally veers into questionable behavior, casting Pascal could make audiences appreciate Reed even in those instances. Interestingly, in “First Steps,” Reed appears to be a virtuous character, as suggested by the trailer’s emphasis on an essential aspect of his persona.

In the movie, each of the other team members has their chance to display their special abilities. Ben is a solid rock, Sue becomes invisible, and Johnny ignites as he soars through the air. However, unlike them, Reed doesn’t demonstrate his elasticity. Instead, we find him scribbling mathematical equations on a chalkboard. This might suggest that the film will emphasize Reed’s intelligence over his stretchy powers, since being the smartest person on Earth is arguably his greatest superpower.

Pedro Pascal’s natural charisma might greatly benefit his character in Reed and the film. While being noticeably smarter than others could potentially turn off some viewers, his endearing qualities and apparent warm relationship with Vanessa Kirby’s Sue could help keep him relatable. Fans will get to see more of Pascal and the rest of the team when “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” hits theaters on July 25.
